To all,

At the suggestion of Chitownclark, I have started a log on Attackpoint. Just a way to keep you updated. I also will use it for updates and make requests from time to time.

If you have any questions or suggestions you can always contact me at glen_schorr@usorienteer.org

Sincerely,
Glen Schorr
Executive Director
United States Orienteering Federation

Hi Glen,

Well I'm making your "training log" one of my Favorites right now. I'm humbled that you should pick up on my suggestion.

Since you're the first person in the US to ever work full-time on this sport we all love, I think your blog will be very interesting reading.

Your observations, personal impressions, frustrations, successes....I hope you'll pull no punches, and log it all. If you read the most popular "training logs" on A/P, you'll find that they contain far more than just training. We've even invented a word for our habit of composing our A/P log entry in our heads during the day: applogging.

Dan--while I certainly love Anza Borrego and don't want to ask stupid or unconstructive questions--what does it mean if the state closes AB in particular? Are there any amenities there? What amenities or services have ever come into play with respect to the orienteering event? Irregardless of the answer to that, if they do close the park, and presumably prohibit access, they would continue to employ people to enforce the prohibition? How many people do they employ now?

I guess I am not sure about the cost savings (from the government's perspective, although I can see if it is >0 that it is a compelling proposition) nor am I sure of the impact on orienteering. I suppose the intuition is that if the park is closed, whether or not the "closure" is actively enforced is irrelevant as a respectful orienteering club would categorically comply?

j-man, all good questions.... But why are we discussing this on the USOF ED Blog thread?

I suggest you open a new thread to discuss these thoughts on the main A/P discussion board; I'd like to see what others might say in response to your suggestion.

To all,

Thanks for the input. Land use is an important issue and one I am getting up to speed on. However land use is not one single issue but, like politics, a lot of local issues.

To whyjustrun (and to all), if you want to make me aware of an idea or POV please, as I have said multiple times already, contact me directly at either glen_schorr@usorienteer.org or call me at 410.802.1125. For those on the west coast I tend to turn the phone off at 9:00 pm eastern time.

Thanks
Glen
