First off I love the site. Best online log I have come across. As an ultra runner the only feature that I miss is a graph to show distances per week / month / year (just like the time graphs). Any chance this could be added to appease the runners?

Well there is a download feature on A/P; and someone smarter than me could tell you how to extract your distances from the CSV (comma separated) data that is available.

Go to your Training Log, click on "Reports" at the far right end of the menu bar, and you'll have the option to see CSV data for any period you choose. It comes out looking like this:

date,activity,subtype,minutes,miles,mi_pace,kilometers,km_pace,climb,intensity,t-intensity,ahr,mhr,controls,spiked,rhr,sleep,weight(kg),weight(lbs),injured,sick,restday,shoes,description
2009-04-21,City running,,52.0,4.25,12.234778674432885,6.84,7.60233901169227,,2,0,,,,,,,,,0,0,0,NewBalance 426,Recovery from yesterday's 10 miles. Felt pretty stiff to begin but warmed up nicely in the second half of the run particularly after a Sierra Nevada at 3pm at McCoys 3 blocks from home. Ran down to FleetFeet to pick up Soupie's and my race packets for the Sunday 5k. Nice shirts.

I've tried to copy these data into a spreadsheet, but it doesn't want to fill the individual cells. Anyone have a clue how to use CSV data?

Don't paste it in. Open the csv file like you'd open a normal spreadsheet file, say, an xls). Usually it will recognize it, but occasionally you have to tell it the fields are separated by commas (rather than semicolons, for example).

try (in M$ excel anyway) data->text to columns from the top menu, then select comma as the separator, should be what you're looking for.

Using Windows and Excel 2003....

Select all the CSV output from AP in the browser.
Copy the selected CSV text to your clipboard.
Open a new text file for editing perhaps using Notepad.exe.
Paste the CSV text into Notepad.
Save the file with a ".txt" extension.
Close Notpad.exe.
Open Excel.
Click File-->Open
Select "All Files" in the "Files of Type" to drop down list box.
Select your text file that contains the AP CSV output and click Open.
Select "Delimited" in the Excel Text Import Wizard.
Click Next.
Check the Comma delimeter.
Click Next
Click Finish.

And it works using a Mac and M$ Office too:
- I saved the CSV data to my desktop, where it appeared as a .jsp icon.
- I manually changed the icon's suffix from .jsp to .xls and clicked the icon. It opened as an Excel spreadsheet with each day's data in just a few columns, and still containing all the commas.
- With the entire third column (the column containing all the commas) highlighted, I clicked the Data>Text to Columns command in the Excel menu bar. I got a pane that allowed me to select "delimited" and then "commas" (and none other) and then "Finish." A preview of your spreadsheet is displayed within the pane allowing you to click on as many buttons as you wish to achieve your desired format before clicking "Finish."

Thanks for your help guys. I think I'm going to use this newly-learned skill and develop some interesting data trends and graphs about my lazy winter training.

When I got the screen of csv data and did "file-save as", the resulting file had html in it.

Instead, when you get the screen of data, do Cntl-A, Cntl-C to select all and then copy. Then paste it (Cntl-V) into cell a1 of a blank spreadsheet. Then do the "Text to Columns - delimited - comma" thing.

thanks for the suggestions, I have been keeping a spreadsheet with mileage info in it as a baseline because I have change online logs a bunch. This was just a feature inquiry.......

While he is omniscient, and no doubt aware of this inquiry before you wrote it, you may want to send a note to AP guru ken anyway. (the contact link at the bottom of the pages.)

This drill would be an ideal entry to an Attack Point FAQ...if we had one.

There is actually a log of current suggested A/P development items that you can access by clicking the "development" button at the bottom of this page. Not everyone is supposed to be able to see this page tho. If you can see it, you know that Ken has deemed you a "serious" A/P user.

Anyone who wonders why A/P deserves a donation only needs to click on the "all items" button on that page to see the formidable list of development items that people have suggested to Ken. Just fielding these suggestions looks like a full-time job to me.
