10) It's the first event of its kind anywhere in the world. Ever. (We're waiting for the lawyers to tell us otherwise.)

More to come. In the meantime, make sure to register by March 15th.

9) You can do it from anywhere in the world... technically.

We added some maps to the website today.

so what is it? mobile O?

It's mobile-o with a twist. We're pairing up local runners with global navigators. For example, if you were my teammate, the course designer would email you the course map, you'd call from Brisbane (or wherever you happen to be) to my mobile phone and talk me through the course here in Seattle. Fastest team wins.

Lots of other questions answered here.

Do the navigators get the maps in advance or right at the start time?

Q: Do the navigators get the maps in advance or right at the start time?

A: The navigators will receive the maps electronically the day before the event.

Since this is a fun, fund-raising event, with no championships or ranking points on the line, we wanted to be flexible. We didn't want to limit people to a computer screen in order to participate.

We expect that some people will sit at a computer, but others will want to print off the map and sit in their favorite chair. Or they might not even be at home during the event!

Yes, this opens up this event to cheating. But so does electronically providing maps right at the start, when a navigator can send the map to a runner with a smart phone.

We're asking people to be honest and not study the map beforehand, and we're hoping that people go on the honor system. This is just supposed to be a fun novelty event!

8) You don't have to do any running. Just talking.
8a) Ok, if you really want to do some running, you can just dial in from your treadmill.

We added two international participants to our list of global navigators today. Thanks for your support!

7) Looking for a teammate in Seattle? You could be teamed up with one of four current and former US Champions! (Ok, ok, one of them is an adventure racing champion, so more like three and a half.)

Take a look at the current roster of Seattle runners, waiting to be teamed up.

6) All the cool kids are doing it.

This a fund-raiser for WIOL, and we have several current and former WIOL juniors participating. Team up with one today!

5) It's from 10am-12pm in Seattle on a Sunday, so if you live anywhere east of there, you can go orienteering but still sleep in.
5a) Unless you're in Australia, in which case you're already sleeping again.

We've got global participants from 3 continents now!

4) It's like playing a giant Catching Features tournament, except that the characters are real.

As of today, the official roster for local runners is complete. Now we're looking for 16 more global navigators for the numbers to come out even. Sign up by the 15th!

3) You'll get at least one more friend on Facebook.

Just 15 spots left!

... Number 4 is actually super compelling to me. Seriously, people! We're like your own personal rat that you get to guide through the maze! Sign up!

Indeed, "personal rat." All the more apt because we're so hardy and cunning...like rats.

2) You can orienteer in Seattle without the rain.
2a) Or, you could call from your shower, you know, for a more authentic experience.

We're down to just 7 unpaired local runners!

1) Do it for the children! The cute, little orienteering children!

Proceeds from the event support local juniors from WIOL as they travel to US Interscholastics Champs. For a lot of these kids, Interscholastics is the first A-meet they ever go to. They get the chance to meet juniors from other parts of the country for the first time, and it's like an introduction into the larger orienteering world.

We just need 5 more globals to guarantee that all of our registered locals get a teammate.
