If anyone happens to be browsing through the June issue of Maxim magazine, turn to page 50, the section called "Ask us anything." There, Maxim finds experts to answer all sorts of questions sent in by readers. One of this month's questions was "How dos triangulation work?", with a very nice and coherent explanation provided by one J-J Cote, a professional cartographer in Lunenburg, MA.

Congrats, J-J! You've hit the big time!! :)

Boris... uh... you mean you actually read that rag?

I was kinda wondering whether this would slip by unnoticed. Jon Nash put me up to it, I swear.

Still... it will occupy an honored position in my archives, alongside the 1990 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue that has a picture Peggy Dickison in it (no, I'm not kidding).

And obviously things must be going well for Boris, too. Or else how else could you explain him reading Maxim these days? It appears what they say about how bleak things look for Harvard grads can't be true, and there is still hope even for Ivy Leaguers! What next? Sports Illustrated, or even Newsweek?

Thanks Boris for being such a good role model.

Based on your example, I'll be trying to climb other rungs on Mr. Swampfox's ladder of literature. But Sports Illustrated has a lot of numbers in it and that's kind of scary...

Dave Linthicum (is anyone suprised?) happened to see this article & he got great glee out of showing it to people at the Beer Chase, and somehow I ended up w/ the page (not the magazine ... not generally my type of reading material ...) but it will likely be tossed as soon as I find it again. For anyone who's interested, there are naked women (okay, cartoon naked women) at the bottom of the page. Pretty racy, J-J!

FWIW, I wasn't wearing a swimsuit in SI ... and my mom was rather embarassed to buy it ... thank goodness I wasn't quoted in Maxim!

We always knew there was a hidden side to J-J. We just didn't know where it would turn up. Nekkid women and beer--lordy!

Hmm, do we really *know* that you weren't wearing a swimsuit, Peggy? I'd have to look at the picture again, but as I recall, one can't tell whether you're wearing one or not. (In fact, I don't know whether we can even tell whether you had anything on at all! Maybe a shirt...)

So Dave reads Maxim, huh? All I knew about it before I talked to them on the phone was that it's one of the magazines that's always sitting on the table in the waiting room when I get my oil changed.
