Hi Ken,
I was wondering if the value entered into the 'Initial Miles' is supposed to be left out of the tally that is shown on the shoes page. Would it be possible to list the total distance for the shoes there with a separate column for attackpoint-miles, perhaps?

no, it's not supposed to be left out. the point is that it fixes your total to show the right amount. if you are using it for some other purpose, you might want to just use the description field.

That's why I thought it was strange, because on mine at least, it IS left out:
"Giant Yukon 2003-03-28 0 0 0 0 0"
Might be a bug because I've done no miles on it in AP at all, I just put it in to remember I had it all those years ago. If I click 'Edit' it says 1558 in the initial miles box, but still zero shows up on the main page.

I just tested it with my other bike, that has many km logged in AP, and the initial offset seems to work fine. So it's just a bug that affects the 'shoes' that have no AP miles logged, maybe?
