Last day to register for the Canadian Champs is tomorrow, August 2!

As a bonus, don't miss the unique opportunity to take part in a World First - a real, technical orienteering race on the ocean floor! Mike Smith has created courses to test your skills, with controls tucked in amongst the huge natural "flower pots" that have made the Hopewell Rocks into a world-renowned natural wonder. Every one of the control sites is fully submerged at high tide, but as the 13-meter tides roll out, the sites become exposed, long enough for you to find them all and still have time to marvel at the natural beauty around you.

As for the rest of the races, the course setters and vetters have been busily preparing courses to challenge your skills. Rest assured, the courses are worthy of the National Championship designation. And of course, the WRE events will ensure the opportunity for you to compete head-to-head against the best orienteers in Canada. The registration list already includes 10 of the 11 runners who represented Canada at the recent World Championships, plus former World Championship medalists Holger Hott and Katarina Smith.

And if you have the chance, don't miss the Fishbones prequel events. Holger, Mike and I have been putting together some technically-challenging courses that use the nicest bits of Saint John's Scandinavian-like terrain. The area is excellent preparation for the technical forests of the Fundy map, and will also host the Sass Peepre National Junior Training Camp following the Fishbones.

Also, check out the interesting topics featured in the presentations scheduled during the COC weekend.

And if that wasn't enough, some of the best seafood in the world can be had fresh off the boats in Alma - you haven't really tasted lobster until you've tasted the best that the Bay of Fundy has to offer. No wonder so many top restaurants around the world spend a fortune shipping the shellfish out on a daily basis....

The information and registration is on the COC website at:

(not sure how to get this in the "Events" column now that I've mistakenly started it here...)

The entry deadline has officially passed, but we _are_ still accepting late entries, realizing that some people may have been unable to make a travel commitment until the last moment.

To register, just go to the link cited above, click on "register", and then send an e-mail message to the registrar.

PS - The banquet is officially sold out - sorry! There is still some (limited) space left in most of the other events, though.
