Okay, the location is still tentative (have to locate the man with the maps ... and it is not the normal man with the maps ...) - but there WILL be training on Sunday 4/22. I would like to say meet at 9:45 or so for 10:00 start.

As it is mid-winter, no O lately for many of us - the goal for the day will be 'Looking at the map A LOT!' There will be three exercises, and I'm hoping that it will get everyone orienteering for 90-120 minutes, with minimal standing around. The courses/exercises will be aimed at Red/Blue level folks.

There will be a cost of $3 per person - which is the cost of the map plus a $.50 donation to the US Team (though of course you could always donate more :-)

And while I am happily organizing this one ... I would be very happy to simply coordinate volunteer organizers for the next few months ...

RSVP for this Sunday so I know how many maps we need. It will be Estabrook Woods (Concord) if I can get ahold of enough maps, if not it will be Harold Parker (Andover). Update in a few days ...

1/22? :)

I'm interested although transport is a problem (from Kendall or anywhere on the T would be great, if someone wants to volunteer).

I'm interested. Coming from Worcester, I'm much happier going to Concord than to Andover (and over, and over).

Feet - Wendy and Ian Finlayson live quite near Davis, and last thing I knew they were planning to come ... so that is a possibility. I'll check when I speak to them next (they don't read Attackpoint - shock horror!).

Update! Okay, due to lack of Estabrook maps, and questionable map quality as well ...
Training Sunday 1/22 will be at HAROLD PARKER!
The time will stay 9:45 meet for 10:00am start.
Exact location to be determined (anyone local have a suggestion as to where the best parking is?). I'll post it on Friday. Sorry for those of you who prefered Concord (I did too, but it isn't worth training if the map is frustratingly out of date).
It looks like a good group so far- around 10 people. Any more?

Sorry; I'm out no matter where the venue, unfortunately. Susan has to work, so I'll run in the afternoon. Enjoy the training.

Parking -- what about park headquarters?

That is what I was hoping for - the place in the middle of the map, by Stearns Pond. Guess it is on Salem St, though it might be called Middleton Rd at that point - just south of the junction with Harold Parker Rd.
As far as I can tell the roads are not shut at this time of year ... so we'll say the headquarters parking.
If anyone wants my cell phone number as a backup, then send me an email. Our phone and internet are working again, thanks to Verizon, and NO thanks to the squirrel who chewed through our line!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can somebody give me an exact address I can google or at least directions from some major highway? I'll be coming from Worcester and I don't know this area at all so I have no idea where you are talking about.

I'm excited to do a long run though. What kind of distance or time are you planning?

I believe 600 Middleton Road, North Andover, MA will get you close, at least on Yahoo or Mapquest. Google rejects it (the Park Headquarters is maybe .5K N of where Google says it is?)

Check out the NEOC site for some directions that work reasonably well with the map on the state park site. HQ is on the west side of Stearns Pond ...
(And I want you to know that this is the first time this drama teacher has created a link, and it worked! So I am feeling very proud of myself now.)

Sounds good, I'll see you in the morning. I'll just keep driving around Stearns Pond until I find you. That's my favorite route choice technique anyway.

Thanks, KH! It was good to be out in the woods. I hadn't done a line-O before, and it was pretty interesting.

I had a really hilarious time getting back from the "finish" to the parking lot. I *think* I was near the finish, where that beaver dam was? Then there was a lot of unexpected thawing frozen water that I didn't dare go on/through, and it took me a really long time to figure out how to get around it.
