Discussion: Training week: Sunday -> Saturday or Monday -> Sunday?

So, I've just updated the last month or so of my training ... and I've been wondering. Am I the only one who considers a training week to start on Monday and end on Sunday?

The attackpoint Sunday->Saturday format clashes with my Runner's World training calendar (yeah, I still keep a paper diary). And it splits all two-day weekend events into separate weeks ... seems funny to me.

So, just to keep us all entertained, who does Sunday -> Saturday; and who does Monday -> Sunday?

you can change which day the week ends for you by selecting "User Menu" from the left side, then "Edit preferences"

this won't change the "your calendar" display (at the moment) but it does affect the weekly view/summary pages.

I have my week set to end on Sunday...

I always have my week end on Friday. That way you can't slack off all week and say, "I'll make up for it in the weekend", and then have bad weather or conflicts wreck your plans. This way if you can't get out Sat and Sunday, then you know it and you get extra time and miles in during the middle of the week to catch up.

I'm with you. I do Monday-Sunday. I like thinking about the week that way - working towards the weekend. It also means that if I have a race on the weekend it falls at the end of my training week, not the beginning. I dunno, it just seems "cleaner" not to split the weekend (like an infinitive...).

I'm with you Brian. Monday-Sunday. More food for thought... I was reading Martin and Coe's Training Distance RUnners and Seb Coe used to use a 10 or 12 day cycle, I think. Seems you could fit more quality in without burning out if you had a longer cycle. 7 days doesn't divide very well to allow you maximum amount of quality with ample recovery. WOuldn't it be nice to not have a job and to not have to worry about which day of the week it was?

Brent: it's called being a university grad student. Hope you are enjoying the real world. When you're in town we can ski any day of the week.
