While this question may be (legitimately) derided, I don't care.

I am interested in acquiring an elliptical cross trainer so I can sequester myself at home to avoid the embarassment of doing wussy workouts in public view.

However, I am a bit picky and really only want to consider a Life Fitness machine in good to very good condition. The problem is, the limited selection of these things I see on EBay still seem to be in the 2K$ + range which is not much different than they are new. That is a bit pricey.

However, I have to imagine there must be another source of these things besides EBay. I know my gym recently replaced dozens of these things with the new, top of the line model. I'm curious where the old ones go...

Any ideas?

When SJU redid their gym last year they sold off things to interested faculty and students. Unfortunately I was away at the time of the announcement and when I finally read about it all the good stuff was gone.

Why not go all the way and get a hyperbolic trainer? Why limit yourself to the wussy "lesser" conic sections?

Eddie,

Well, truth be told, I am really looking for a trainer with hyperdrive. But, it is taking a while to get requisite Starfleet clearance.

I think the 4th post in this thread may be more worthy of derision than the 1st...

Craig's List has some in the Philly classifieds... under $600

Edit... missed the part about wanting Life Fitness only... but you can keep an eye out there

I have found elliptical trainers to be the most tolerable form of indoor aerobic gym exercise. Treadmill running, cycling, rowing, and Nordic tracking are all excruciatingly boring to me. But then, I've always lived in Seattle, where there are lots of trees, waterways, and nearby mountains to look at, compared to most comparably-sized cities, and there is almost always pleasant exercising weather (if one doesn't mind getting drizzled on).

Without sounding too impolite, I hope, I have to ask: where in that 100 sq ft apartment are you planning to install a piece of exercise equipment? (I greatly enjoyed my visit, and your hospitaliity, but fear that there will no longer be room for guests. :-)

Don't worry, JJ. We recognized that our place was too small to accomodate our guests, so for that reason we are moving to a much larger place. This will handle orienteers, assorted fun and games, and even cross trainers.

What, you've never slept on an elliptical trainer before?

No, but I think I slept on peggyd's NordicTrack once.

Congrats on moving up, Clem and Dasha!
