A few weeks ago, at the Susquehanna Stumble, a reporter from Penn State's NPR radio station covered the race and talked with several race participants and organizers. The show includes discussions with Brad Whitmore, Eddie Bergeron, and Heidi Onkst. For those who are interested, you can find an mp3 copy of the feature at http://www.wpsu.org/radio/features.php?bookmark_id..., or if the link doesn't work, just go to WPSU's website and navigate to Cynthia Berger's show "Sports that Aren't Football" under the radio section of the site. The program is only 5:30 long and is fun to listen to, except there's some club named DVOA (and their bright new shinny uniforms) that is featured too prominently. Oh well, can't have everything ;-) At least orienteering is getting some publicity!!!

Sweet! It came off pretty well. I was hoping it would broadcast nationally, but it only went out as a local program on WPSU in the 7:33 and 8:33 AM slots during Morning Edition today. Yeah, lots of talk about DVOA's new monkey suits, but at least she didn't mention snakes or twisted ankles. Heidi got tons of air time! She's the best speaker of all of us of course. Sandy is in there too!

Ah yes, the DVOA O-suits. Well, it is only appropriate that they are heralded. Gregory has one of these, btw. But, he generally has both feet on the ground, so I'm struggling to explain one of Eddie's recent obscure comments. But, at least this is a start.

Here's a nice photo from the DVOA galleries showing the new digs. Not sure whether Eric's blue jeans or Clem's power tights are the accepted bottoms though.

And those ankle-deep crispy brown leaves. As a participant in the race, I thought she did a pretty good job covering O' on radio. Thanks to Heidi, Brad & Eddie for the good sound bites, and for ensuring the reporter understood what we're doing.

Well, I can't wait to listen to it. But next time we have major media coverage, I would think it beneficial to have Gregory be interviewed. Imagine the impact!

Thanks for posting the link Dave. Heidi really hammed it up! As an aside - I did some of my earliest orienteering at Penn State. That was back in the Cro-Magnon era (1982-84). I was the only civilian member of an ROTC sponsored club. They had one black and white map (Stone Valley / Shavers Creek). Unfortunately, the club's been defunct for a while now.
