(he says begrudgingly ;-)).... definitely good fun and would be tempted to run M50 again next year, as Matthew was all alone on Blue (which I could run). I never understand why people don't enjoy the head to head you get in chasing starts and relays.
Re: enjoying/not enjoying chasing starts - a few people had similar comments today. Again it was demonstrated that it’s easy to manage with a computer. Would be a shame if this is the last ever Caddihoe *Chase*. Given it’s only the second(?) chase since we last hosted 9 yrs ago my feeling is it’ll turn into a bog standard two event weekend in Devon that nobody wants to go to :-(
Definitely a bit more of a buzz today, and nice to be actually “racing” people. Good way to make orienteering feel more exciting!
Couldn't agree more - it was interesting to see my HR zones - Saturday a nice mix of yellow, orange and red - Sunday Red all the way.... suggesting that I don't push myself enough in TT style races... which I sort of knew but it's a bit annoying to see that I can run for an hour in the red (possibly with HR zones set wrong)... wouldn't have done it without the challenge of overhauling Paul - and being overhauled by Stodge. Thanks guys! :)
It would be sad as you say Richard to lose the chase element. Do you know who would be making that sort of decision at Devon? I might drop them a line - not in a badgering way but to point out that if the Caddihoe isn't a chase it wouldn't stand out as an "I must go to that". We had non-orienteering options for a weekend away with friends this weekend, and I definitely chose this event because of the Chase element that we hadn't had for a while... I'm sure it was stressful organising at times - but definitely worth it!
Incidentally, I just sent an email to Devon's chairman Adrian Taylor (not sure if he's the right person but still) to say that if the Caddihoe is a chase, I would put it in my diary now - if it is just two cumulative races, I'll wait and see what else is going on next year and make my decision a few weeks prior to the race...
