In the same tradition as our Easter hunt events, we now have a holiday event online. Enjoy!

I haven't done this yet, but I'm sure I will. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the work.
I haven't done one of these in years and was never very good at them. I'm looking to redeem myself.
When did you make a map of Huntington Park?
I played around with mapping it remotely about 6-7 years ago.

Thanks, kept me entertained for a while :-)

While out there for the Nationals, I did contemplate visiting one or both sites of the previous photo-Os.

Thanks! Kept me out of the nasty weather.

Well that was a challenge, not only from an orienteering perspective but also from a technology perspective—my phone screen is pretty small. Lots of switching between the map and images. In the end, even trying to figure out the colour of the stuffed animal was a challenge in several of the images.
I was impressed with the armchair exercise. It was well done. It got me focused on the control and the terrain. Thanks for putting it together and sharing it. Much appreciated.

To help keep everything straight, I made a 1-31 [edit: paper] list, and noted both the plushie color (B, G, W, Y, R) and the photo ID (A, AA, B, ...).

If available, a PC is certainly the way to go.

I made the mistake when I did it of keeping track of the controls I'd crossed off (which was kind of obvious since they're listed on the answer form) but not the photos so I'd forgotten which ones I'd done!

Compared to the ones with colored Easter eggs, I liked this one much better with the plushies that had different colors and designs. My biggest struggle with the Easter ones wasn't the orienteering, but actually determining the colors of some of the eggs, since it was hard to tell in certain lighting conditions.

This was a fun exercise. I was all prepared for orienteering-related, extremely difficult questions for the Bonus images, in order to differentiate tied scores. Something like, "Nearest to what control #101-#131 is the site pictured?"

I was surprised when I finally opened the Google form. :-)

Pink +1

Longer distances also made the egg colors harder to discern -- even with zooming in using a PC.

Finally finished and submitted my answers. I loved the bonus questions!

Thank you to John Phillips and Clare Durand!

That was fun and made me think. Thanks!

At least on the second try I managed to come up with answers to all the questions, no guarantee they are right, of course. But better for sure than the first try a week ago, when I looked at the photos in a random order and before long there was this photo with a bunch of coots and I couldn’t find the stuffed creature. Looked and looked and looked some more. Finally gave up, just too stupid. Figured out this time it was a bonus photo. Better late than never, I guess, And self-esteem is on the rebound. :-)

The form still took submissions today (I think) but "View Accuracy" just shows what was submitted. Is it closed-ish?

Thank you, LAOC, Clare, John, and anyone else involved. That was a lot of fun and very well done (...felt like 31x of a relocating drill.) & enjoyed beautiful SoCal photos on a snowy day of a rainy/snowy week.

That was a lot of fun, and I was confident that I got a perfect score. I did on the photo-O, but apparently mixed up the two fowl bonuses, frango de lama & mordedor de tornozelo.

Could someone who got them correct please explain their reasoning?

EDIT: My reasoning was strictly academic -- and, as a result, incorrect...

I thought the small birds would be more likely to bite ankles than the larger ones, for which "mud chickens" seemed a better fit, at least size-wise. IOW, I completely ignored the reputation (Canada) geese had for biting (though I would think they'd aim higher than ankles...)

I got them correct but only by virtue of the fact I figured the geese were more likely to bite your ankles and the other ones more closely resembled chickens.

My assumptions too, tRicky. ;-)

I mixed up the two culvert pics but otherwise got the rest correct.
