Here's a tentative schedule for SWSW 2023! As per custom, orienteering during the first week will take place on Tucson maps and the final weekend on Phoenix maps. We are including a rest day on Friday, with the option to do a very informal training (no timing, no results, probably no markings) on the UofA campus that morning.

Saturday, Feb 18th - Catalina Classics @ Catalina State Park (N of Tucson)
Sunday, Feb 19th - Javelina Hustle @ Box Canyon (S of Tucson)
Monday, Feb 20th - Cholla Chaser @ Colossal Cave NEW MAP (E of Tucson)
Tuesday, Feb 21st - Ironwood courses (W of Tucson)
Wednesday, Feb 22st - mini-rogaine Rt 83 maps (S of Tucson)
Thursday, Feb 23rd - Park-O motala @ Lincoln Park (Tucson)
Friday, Feb 24th - Rest day w/ casual UA sprint map training & archeology tour (Tucson)
Saturday, Feb 25th & Sunday, Feb 26th - Phoenix area orienteering

We will get the website updated and open registration fairly soon.

map of all event locations

The Tucson events take place on all sides of the city, so the most convenient is staying right in town. Unfortunately all the camping opportunities are also on the sides of the city, so while it is possible to camp within walking distance of each of the events Sat-Wed, that would require a different campsite each night!

Catalina State Park (Sat), Colossal Cave Mountain Park (Mon), and Tucson Mountain Park (Tue) all have established campgrounds. Dispersed camping is allowed in much of the National Forest around the events on Sunday and Wednesday. No camping available in the direct vicinity of Lincoln Park (Thursday) or UA (Friday).

An email just received says reg for PHX is now open too, but I see no links on the site for getting to it.

We've had a few reports from folks having trouble paying with PayPal. What kinds of problems are folks having and is the same thing happening while registering for other events?

I haven't tried registering for SWSW since I sadly won't be coming west for this one. But I have recently registered (successfully) for other events through EventReg. I tend to pay with credit card through paypal rather than my paypal account itself though.

Sometimes there is a lag between when you pay and when it shows up as verified on Eventreg. Not sure how long a lag or whether there was a glitch someone had to fix, just that I've had that happen before and then later it showed up as good to go.

In my Situation PayPal never opened up when i clicked that option. Waited some time and tried again. Worked.

We had a few people who managed to pay with PayPal but the confirmation did not get to EventReg, so we had to manually mark as paid and confirmed. But we've also had reports from people whose PayPal link just didn't work. Both of those seem like issues that could be more widespread.

I'm in the former category- I'll send the PayPal receipt so you can mark me as paid. The only strange thing is that I seem to have 3 separate EventReg confirmations for myself for this event. But I don't remember anything strange about the PayPal link... (but maybe EventReg thought I paid for one of the three 'Alison Crocker's but that's not the one saved in the database? Really unsure...)

We had a couple instances last month with our local events, of Event Reg recording double payments, but our PayPal account showing that the participant had actually only paid once. Sounds like there is some kind of funk in the ER-PP connection. Haven't discerned any pattern... Perhaps related to the type of device or browser the entrant is using??

We also had a few ghost double payments.

We are also having problems. When i get to the end of registration and click the "pay now" button, it takes me to a page that just says "403-Forbidden" and that is it. Now our names are on the list twice and we still haven't paid.

We're getting similar reports from about 50% of the registrants to the Phoenix Southwest Spring Week events. Most of the reports indicate they get the "Forbidden" error message when they click on the button to pay with Paypal. About 50% of the registrants have successfully paid with Paypal.

Problem solved with a quick email to the registrar and a direct invoice :)

Are any of the event locations best served with AWD or 4x4 or high clearance? (for those of us getting rental cars)
Jan 25, 2023 3:17 AM #
Cristina:
Several of the Tucson events are accessed by unpaved roads, but they are graded, well-maintained, and comfortably drivable in a low-clearance sedan. The longest drive on dirt is for Wednesday's event, and I've done much of that road in a low-clearance Lexus, so I think pretty much anything will work.

@bbrooke yes, sent emails to two addresses and haven't received a response yet.

You could try switching to the newer PayPal interface.
The old system of just entering an email address is using a really old PP api that doesn't really reliably. It should be removed from eventreg, which is why I added the PayPal SPB API option.
