Wait for it…

In the media, they call that a tease.

I thought you meant you'd written some code to solve the TSP for a Rogaine map and you can constrain the total distance but no :-(

So did I...

For the record I do have a TSP solver for rogaines, but have got a constricted version that only caluclates efficiency for the best score at a given distance. beyond brute force sampling

I find the Python to be very enjoyable because it's on quality orienteering maps. They stitched together a number of good maps into 3 big overlapping sheets. There are a few small funkily-mapped areas in the interstices between the original good maps, where barely any fieldwork was done, just enough to connect the well-mapped areas. But otherwise accurate and readable it is based on maps created for past major O events such as, I think, a North American Champs.

Oh dear, the rogaining community in Aus would be having a fit at rogaining on orienteering maps. Far too much detail and accuracy to make it a fair event.

Heh heh. Do I recall a weekend with a MTB rogaine on one day and a Foot rogaine, on the same area, on the other? Interesting going back the next day:-))

Yes it was the other way around, probably because the MTBR map had all the tracks marked whereas the rogaine map did not so it wouldn't have been fair on the foot entrants had we got the MTBR map first.

Yes, I ran a rogaine once on a combination of five orienteering maps. The controls were set orienteering style ... ie find the feature and you will see the control. The orienteers had no problems. The main rogaine complaint was that, as tRicky says, the map was too accurate so it took away the rogaining skill of guessing (my words). I found some amusement in seeing some rogainers following bearings and pace counting through areas of green that they could just walk around. The adventure racers believed it was unfair because "if I am within 50 metres of the control I should see it".

It's changing. But unevenly, as to be expected.

I've seen lots of corn maze orienteering events, but is the Python the only rogaine that incorporates a corn maze?
On another note, while mapping the corn maze, I kept hearing what sounded like jungle birds making an incredible amount of noise. No one could tell me what kind of bird I was hearing. After many years, the mystery is solved. An adjacent sweet corn field is protected by loudspeakers playing recorded warning calls to keep the crows away. Still don't know what bird was recorded.
