I've always fancied running the Sandstone Trail. Might think about this in the future. Our old GB Juniors physio Jane Ashbrook ran it - did about 7-odd hours (she's a local - Frodsham)
There was a shorter race over the more interesting northern sections. I think technique over stiles was an important thing for a good time as there were something like a 100 of them.
I remember doing the race in the 1980's. 16 miles with a shorter 10 mile and a 3 mile option. I also remember there being an awful lot of stiles. One year I timed it badly on the 16 miler and arrived at the 10 mile start point a minute after their race had started on a narrow track and had a load of slower runners to pass for the next mile or so. Can't remember my result, but it was probably embarrassing.
I can't remember any stiles. They must all have been converted to kissing gates, hundreds of them. I guess they are easier for little old ladies to negotiate. My mum has terrible trouble with stiles.
