Day 1 of the Pacific Northwest Orienteering Festival (PNWOF), a middle distance event at Lubrecht Forest outside of Missoula, MT, has been sanctioned as a National Ranking Event by Orienteering USA.
This is believed to be the first-ever OUSA-sanctioned event held in the state of Montana!

More info on the whole PNWOF is available at https://cascadeoc.org/2022-pacific-northwest-orien...

Registration will open later in March!

Road trip? It's almost always a 4-8 hour trip to get to NRE or big event weekends (Highlander, Billygoat) on the east coast, so there's perhaps more of a culture of driving to events over the weekend (and the consequent making up of missed schoolwork for families that depart early or return late). Adding Missoula to the mix might open that option up for Seattle and Portland-based orienteers, perhaps?

You can usually ask event organizers to schedule you late on Sat and early on Sun to support driving. Looks like this one might just be doable (~7 hours?) if you're up for the long drive from around Seattle.

Yup, we do that all the time. We’ll be driving to Jr Nats, 8 hrs driving each way.
Sadly, we are too far to drive to Montana (!) and school is still in session.
