Thanks Mike. Can that be emailed to participants? And posted to the event page? Because Attackpoint isn't that well used.

Charlie is working on an email thru Event Reg.

CHARLIE-B:
In light of today’s weather advisory, issued but the National Weather Service at 11:38 pm last night, extending from 12 am till 2 pm and specifically referencing forested areas, it is with regret that we must postpone today’s races until further notice.

Starts will be delayed for at least 2 hours until local conditions can be evaluated. As of 8 am, winds are already dying down, although there are downed trees at the park impeding event volunteers.

Update at 9 am.

The advisory:

...WIND ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM EST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Sustained winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph
expected.

* WHERE...Parts of northwest Georgia and much of central Georgia.

* WHEN...Until 2 PM EST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects.
Large tree limbs and some trees could be blown down and power
outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high
profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects. Avoid prolonged time
outdoors in forested areas. Falling tree limbs can lead to serious
injury.

We will plan to start the WRE from 12:00 (2 hour delay). NRE will also start at 12:00 noon. Clothing requirement: everyone MUST wear at least two layers. Carrying a phone for emergency is strongly recommended. Temperature of 2C / 36-37F in wet conditions is extreme danger of hypothermia if you are injured or lost. Start crew will require you to take a large trash bag for insulation if they deem your clothing inadequate. This is not debatable.

First WRE start was 9:31, so 2.5 hour delay?
Jan 16, 2022 2:52 PM #
mikeminium:
Correct. 2.5 for WRE, 2 for NRE
Jan 16, 2022 2:58 PM #
yurets:
Just to clarify, for NRE I would add 2 hrs to the original start time,
say 12:59 +2 = 2:59, right? Or --- would it be possible to fit in by say 2 pm?

Two+ layers --is this tops only, or both tops and bottoms?
Jan 16, 2022 3:02 PM #
CHARLIE-B:
2.5 hour delay.
Jan 16, 2022 3:03 PM #
CHARLIE-B:
If you have a late start you will be allowed to start early.

yurets:
Thanks, Charlie
Jan 16, 2022 4:01 PM #
CHARLIE-B:
Sorry. 2 hour delay for NRE. 2.4 hour delay for WRE.

We will be flexible on NRE starts.
Jan 16, 2022 4:01 PM #
CHARLIE-B:
Whistles mandatory. Available at start.

I didn't go to this event, but I just got the email Mike sent out via ClubNet.
The original timestamp was
Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2022 07:53:44 -0500
And the timestamp when Gmail put it in my inbox was
Tue, 18 Jan 2022 19:29:10 -0800 (PST)

And people complain about the USPS.

Apparently clubnet initially flagged it as spam and by the time the moderator approved it, it was much too late. I've posted to clubnet many times before, but probably not in a couple years, so maybe it no longer liked me.

I wouldn't trust Clubnet to distribute time-sensitive information anyway (some people may receive messages from groups like this in "digest" form, the next day).

The best way reach all competitors is with EventReg's communication feature, as long as you use EventReg for registration.

CHARLIE-B:
Agreed, @JanetT! Clubnet was in addition to Attackpoint, Facebook and EventReg.

Something isn't right with the EventReg email feature. It locked up each time we tried to send something. It says to leave the web page open while the messages are sent, but the connection would be lost - despite having good cellphone service.

We believe that emails are sent in alphabetical order or email address, so I called people at the end of the alphabet who confirmed receiving the messages, but then some people in the middle had not received them.

Videlin is aware and has been working on it.

Maybe adding a text message broadcast feature would be worth thinking about?
