Though I didn't run the relay, it was fun watching it! Thanks go to Tom Overbaugh (setter) and the DVOA club members. QOC won the relay but only by about 30 seconds! On the third leg, an injured Jon Torrance held off Sergei Ryzhkov. Sergei made up about 6 minutes on Jon's time. QOC didn't have a bus this year so the club didn't get any points in the beginner and intermediate courses. That gave DVOA the edge for the Broken Compass Award.
I assume Torrance scored extra points for wearing that sharp O-top.? What is the story of the guy coming in after all the group photos have been taken? There is almost nothing as good as orienteering in mid-Atlantic woods in November.
We'll take extra points if we can get them :). Jan Merka had come in after things were breaking-up. He was running 3rd leg. I'm not sure who his teammates were that day but Jan navigates pretty well.
I did put together and just now have posted a choppy video, made up of clips captured while taking relay photos with an iPhone--an IPhone configuration does that in the background. I hadn't intended to cover the whole race but with the clips, I had just enough.
