Discussion: Install Epson receipt printer

We got a new Windows 10 laptop for downloads/results, and I'm having trouble installing our printer. It's an Epson TM-T88IV receipt printer.

Windows recognized it and it shows up in Device Manager under USB Controllers, but I can't install it as a printer.

I believe you need the separate POS software through Epson business site.

"POS" has more than one meaning. It's possible that either could apply here.

I think Valerie is right. We use one too. I remember installing the Epson software.

I have installed the Epson drivers on several PCs and it's always been a pita. There are a load of drivers and utilities and it's very difficult to figure out what you need.

I think what you need is the APD (Advanced Printer Driver). I have APD_456dEWM.zip which I think I used successfully. There are probably newer versions available. You should be able to download one from https://download.epson-biz.com/ .

The zip file includes an install guide PDF. I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions carefully.

One thing to note is that I think connecting the printer before installing the drivers may have been a mistake. You may need to delete the printer before running the installer.

The APD software was the key. I couldn't find it at the regular Epson site, so thanks for the epson-biz link.

On a related topic, has any MeOS user been able to get a legible Competitors in Forest report on a reciept printer? I can get results by class and course, but it would really be nice to print out the names of the people still out when we get close to the end of the day.

I haven't tried printing Competitors in Forest. We just use it on screen, and it meets our needs.

I have the same experience as P.Stromme - the on-screen list is enough to keep track of people still out in the forest.

If I understand your comment above you´ve actually printed results on the receipt printer - is that correct? If so, what´s the problem with Competitors in Forest?

As far as I know there are settings for various print-outs and if you then choose your receipt printer and the corresponding paper size my guess is that you´d get something. I don´t have access to the equipment right now and haven´t been able to test this so I might be wrong...

Yes, I've gotten results out by class and course onto the printer. It's a little difficult to explain, but MeOS appears to make a disinction between Lists and Reports. You can make a new list, but you can't modify the preset reports or create new ones . You can only create a new list or modify a user-defined list. Competitors in Forest is a report. I can generate a list of all competitors and pick the fields I want to display, but I can't filter out the competitors that have a result.
