Interesting. My recent visit to PT for running identified weak glutes (no surprise) as an issue. But rather than plyos and direct work on explosive power, he prescribed raw strength exercises. Specifically low reps (3-4 sets of 6-8 reps) at just under max load for squats and leg presses.
Sounds like he knows what he is doing....are you using machines or weights?
Smith machine for squats at 115# and leg press machine (goes up at an incline) at 300/340#. He said right now just work on major muscle strength and to do free weights for stabilizers later.
