I don’t see anything official posted yet, but I have it from an inside connection that the air quality is deemed adequate such that today’s Long will be held, but with a 1 hour 30 minute delay from the posted start times.

Sunday Long Delayed by 90 Minutes

Air quality is still in the range described as "everyone may begin to experience health effects if they are exposed for 24 hours." The forecast suggests that conditions should improve during the day. For this reason, we will delay the starts by 90 minutes.

Each orienteer should make his or her own decision about whether it is safe enough to participate.

Please add 90 minutes to your start time for the Long, as starts will begin at 11:00.

Packets and registration will be available beginning at 10:30.

No Shuttle Bus; Please Carpool if Possible

We can now use very-limited parking near the venue; please read on.

If you need a ride or have space in your car, please go to the parking lot of the Truckee Community Recreation Center (Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park on Google maps) at 39.33822, -120.17296 and look for orienteers.

Full cars can proceed to the parking at the corner of Sage Hen Road and Highway 89 (39.44678, -120.21543); absolutely do NOT park on the east side of 89. A volunteer will direct you where to park.

The arena will be at 39.45223, -120.23096.

Plan for tomorrow's relay

A decision will be made tomorrow morning before 7:00 AM; watch for an announcement shortly after that time.

(EDIT: I see the above was posted while I was typing.)

Also note that it was announced at the very end of last night’s awards that parking is near the Sagehen event site: a very few spaces right at the arena, runners asked to not claim these but leave them for those who might have difficulty with a long walk; the balance of the parking about a one mile walk to arena. And even that is limited, they begged everyone to carpool.

So don’t drive past Sagehen to yesterday’s Little Truckee Summit parking, expecting to take a shuttle bus. There won’t be one. I imagine some people won’t get the word about this late change and will drive there; I sure hope someone is posted there to redirect them.

Here's the chart of recent AQI (PM2.5) values from the monitoring site ~2km SSW of the arena on Sage Hen Rd. The AQI reading at 7 AM PDT is 181 - the same as it was for the middle yesterday, and has been steady at this level for the past 18 hrs or so:

This monitoring site is in a narrow valley below the level of the arena. Not sure how much the local geography would affect the measurement, but the other sensors on the north side of Truckee are at the same 180-190 level. The air at the meet site should be about the same as it is in town.

Does anybody have an explanation of that big grayed out area on the long map? Not a standard symbol for out-of-bounds or not field checked?

Maybe that's part of the terrain in reserve for 2023?

Or a really surprising expanse of flat bare rock? ;-)

The grayed-out area is part of the map planned for 2023.
