Thank you DVOA, course setter, event director, volunteers, and permit seekers, for staging this event. Loved the terrain, the rhododendron, mountain laurel, creeks, rocks, waterfalls, ponds, marshes, ferns, forest trails and jeep roads.

It took me longer to find Steve Tarry in the results, than it did in the photos.
edit- his face isn't depicted.

Hah! Besides my Live-Free-Or_Die "O-MAPS", there were also NY plates "OMAPS" (Jeremy) at the event. I remember there used to be someone with Delaware plates in the same vein, but haven't seen those in years.

Re results, since I was one of the last to start and finish, I was not in the results at the time sherpes took the pictures.

I took your name in vain, Eric, in the post-run socializing. (How nice it was to have post-run socializing at an event! I guess DVOA has had some semblance of normality at meets for a while, but in New England, we have only barely begun to actually see other orienteers at an event.) Three of the maps were modern digital productions, courses drawn with Purple Pen (or maybe it was Condes), etc. But I guess DVOA is still working through its large inventory of offset-printed Hickory Run maps, so Sam hand-drew the controls on 100 or so of those!! He did make a template of a sheet of plastic with holes punched in it to somewhat speed up the process, but I am still in awe that he had the patience to hand-draw something like 2000 circles and numbers. So I told Sam he could now better appreciate tales of the rubber stamp-pad that he could surely hear from you.

Speaking of Sam, and to get back to sherpes' comment that started this thread, it was indeed an outstanding job by Sam and his helpers. The course design was excellent, the controls were located in an almost-random way that made it quite a feat to figure out an efficient route. Then it was quite a feat to find the controls in that great, complex terrain--a fun feat since, unlike so many rogaines, the maps were excellent.

John DeWolf had/has a similar O-Maps Pennsylvania plate, but hasn't been around O much lately.

Yes, it is great to see all the Hickory Run maps, both older and newer, put to very good use.
