Everybody knows about training hard, then having a rest day. But does this translate to eating habits? A semi-fast day, followed by a pig-out day? Anyone know of the effects of this? (Besides heightening one's awareness of what food deprivation could do to people in need)

I think I remember seeing research that indicated the body improved it's ability to convert the calories into fat. I'll see if I can find the reference.
