Hopefully the detour is to Broulee else you won't be getting much NOLing done!

Interesting that Google Maps thinks 'Melbourne' to 'Broulee' is the same time to the minute via the Hume to Yass or via the Princes Highway. One of those 'there exists no optimal route' route choice problems that orienteering in Australia seems to throw up so often.

I am particularly missing going to this one since Broulee was our standard summer beach vacation location for much of my childhood. I remember the last time Broulee Island was in fact an island, in 1987-88.

My route choice was not one that any conceivable algorithm would find, but there were reasons for that - more when I put in today's entry. (I did look at my place to Broulee and the two options were within a few minutes of each other).

Because of our Melbourne/Mornington Peninsula connections, the South Coast wasn't a regular summer holiday place for us in the way it was for so many other Canberrans, but we did go there every now and again.

Was thinking beforehand that flat, green and technical - which is what I was expecting for Broulee - was also a good description of the US Middle trials, but as it turned out the flat parts of today's map were barely used - almost all of it was in the more complex dunes near the coast.
