This will NOT be a National Ranking Event
This will be a weekend of our regular local orienteering meets with age classes for awards.
Each runner gets a score of up to 1000 points for each run: 1000 times winner’s time/runner’s time. So, the winner gets 1000 points and a runner that takes twice as long gets 500 points. The best two out of three scores from the weekend are added to derive a total score. The highest number of points in the age class wins.
Saturday: Classic Distance courses at Sweetwater Creek State Park
Sunday: Classic Distance courses at Sweetwater Creek State Park
Monday: Middle Distance courses at Dauset Trails
We will hold the Southeastern Interscholastics Championships on April 10/11 and will seek sanctioning for at least a 2 Day Classic NRE for that event. The embargoed venue is Don Carter State Park.
Yakshemash, Charlie
Would you be using the forgotten east side of Sweetwater?
Absolutely, Yurets. West on Day 1 and East on Day 2.
Also, if you haven't been to Dauset in a while, it is really nice there now. They had a controlled burn a while back and the undergrowth is way down. Really delightful to run through. Should be a fast and furious middle.
Do they still have animals there? That little zoo and arboretum was real nice back in 2010.
Yes they do. No dogs allowed!
Can't wait! Will drive there....
We have had 14 in-person meets since May. Volunteers and runners have felt very safe. Of course, traveling is a different issue and people need to figure out how to do that safely. Here are our COVID-19 Pandemic Rules. Constructive suggestions welcome.

I'm sorry but I cannot find the link to the registration page. Could you please point me to it?
The announcement is on our home page and that will turn into a registration link when it's ready. Won't be for a few weeks yet. Will post here when it is.

Any update? Just want to make sure all is still cool.
Registration is about to open. Note that entries will be limited to 120 per day. First come, first served. We'll announce it on Attackpoint first.
Is anyone on Attackpoint actually interested in attending?
Very interested, but also not able to. Sorry, Charlie.
Understood, Greg. I hear you.
I'll rephrase.
Who on Attackpoint intends to attend?
Four people have
checked that they plan to attend (as participants), though one did so with the note that it's contingent on his being allowed to cross 10 states to get here. Plus some maybes.
3-4 Riley's are likely to attend - looking forward to registration opening.
8 folks from out of town with reservations already:)
We have 6 families constantly checking registration. We don’t want to miss it we have travel reservations. Are we talking going live in the next few minutes or just randomly soonish?
from out of town
That's an understatement, John!
Haha. This race has been the “carrot” for 4 months of training for this group of kids. They have essentially been one giant family since February of last year. I’ve had a couple of parents say they think orienteering has literally saved their kids life...probably hyperbole, but rewarding none the less. I’m always trying to hold something cool over their heads as bribery to train...this seemed like the best option this year. They have rented a giant party house somewhere out there. Hopefully they will have a good time. So thanks for keeping the Nav cup alive!
OK, so we'll be opening registration to GAOC volunteer coupon holders at 8 pm EST tomorrow Wednesday, Jan 6th. Registration will then be open to all-comers at 8 pm EST on Thursday, Jan 7th.
From all indications, there may be a mad scramble to sign up, so if you are not a GAOC member you may want to sign up as an Associate Member ahead of time at
https://www.racerpal.com/register/GAOC/membership/. The signup is all the way at the bottom of the page and it is for the sole purpose of signing waivers and there is no cost. This will let you register more quickly and will mean that your browser may auto-populate some fields when you do actually register.
Registration opens to all at 8 pm EST.
At this time, there are about 110 slots left on each day.
I would be surprised if there are any left by tomorrow.
If it does sell out, you can still be put on the waitlist.
Not open yet, refreshing...
Registered. 16 filled so far...
30-31 now. Not quite the multiple-sellout trained crowds of QOC. Phew. :)
Is it possible to change course if I registered already?
Dauset Middle Results posted.
All course results posted on AP.
Thanks so much - this was a blast!
Charlie! You refunded money to us I am pretty sure. Why? It only cost a roll of nickles to begin with. How are you gonna make money like that? They got more out of this weekend than 10 events would normally give. Orienteers are too nice:) (Unless they mess up a checkpoint, and then they are like a mob, attacking everything in sight)
Our whole team had a blast, learned a lot, especially those that had never orienteered on terrain outside western washington and everyone from GA was great! Thank you this was the highlight of their year with no real events. It really meant a lot! And agreed we didn’t expect a refund. Red top mountain permanent course was a great suggestion and we had a great day there too. We’ll be back!!
