Hi all,

We went and did the Anytime Orienteering at Settlers Common yesterday (and even saw a couple of other people doing it!). It was definitely nice to get out and have a run. Having never run on the map before, it held enough challenge and really enjoyable. We might look at Kalamunda and Manning Park in coming weeks.

However, once they are exhausted, I was thinking we might head out bush, within the current travel restrictions. From what I can see, we can still access as far as Malmalling, but not much further.

Here's my thought - I'd be willing to put out some tapes for my mob to use as a course (maybe a 5km moderate/hard style course and an E loop) at Malmalling for example and then share copies of the map files with others. We could leave the tapes in situ until this is all over. If others did this at other locations (JFNP, Jumbuck, Nganga, Yetar Springs) we might be able to share for a few weeks.

I'll stress here that I'm not intending to meet up with people in the bush - just to use each other's courses.

As I say, we'll look at using Anytime O for a couple of weeks at least.

Thoughts?

I was planning on getting out to some Anytime Orienteering courses to mix it up with the Suburb Run courses I've been doing. I've never run Settlers Common and it's not that far from me so it was first on my list - ooh I just looked at where it is and it seems I rode past it on Friday night!

Just hoping our printer has enough ink to print a few maps. It's getting low on one colour and I'm not intending buying more because it's expensive (may have to head to OfficeJerks for printing if I get keen). Other, easily accessible and unrestricted maps would be good.

Might be a while before I get out though because I think the month of April just filled up with work for me but will know for sure in the coming days.

Kenine Hill is in the Great Southern - my region. I'm happy to put tapes out for me to go and collect at a later date. ;-)

Great initiative though GB104, no excuses for your kids to not be all at H standard by the end of the season... and you might even get up there too.

Really guys travel to O Maps is NOT Essential - just wait for the virus to be slowed down before you start driving all over!

Travel to coffee shops is totally essential. Especially if you are 70 or over.

I'm already going crazy with no cross country running for the winter, let alone orienteering! Looks like I will have to stick to Virtual Orienteering on steam PC gaming. Graham that's exactly what mum and dad were telling me I should ask Rob and Lois to do, as I will still be training until Orienteering Tasmania cancels Auschamps and Schools Champs.

I was at Settlers Common today along with a very few other people, none of whom were doing the orienteering course.

So, we've now completed all of our local Anytime Orienteering courses and today we went out and did our own courses at JFNP - starting at the Glen Brook Dam on the way down to the tavern.

Courses are Hard long (about 5.1km), Hard short (3km), Moderate (2.2km) and Easy (1.7km).

Fair warning though - some of the rock mapping in areas is not great, bordering on just plain wrong. Apart from that, it's a bit thick but not too bad for the most part.

I can email pdf's if anyone wants them. Pink tapes are still in the bush (we'll pick them up some time soon), mostly between waist and shin high.

Given up on this one I see. We've not even hit the next stage of restrictions easing yet.

Two years later and there is still restrictions… governments trying to have a vice grip on control I see!
