It looks like I will be in the Bay Area (around Berkeley/Oakland) for the event. Are there public transport options to get there? I see that you can go to the end of the BART and then probably just run from there?

It looks like AC Transit line 71 will get you to/from Point Pinole from the Richmond BART station on a Sunday (and line 376 late-night). $2.50 each way or $5.50 for a day pass if you only want to pay once (cash), and maybe a $0.25 discount with a BART transfer. Its a 30 min ride on hourly intervals - you could probably jog it faster. I don't live in the Bay Area, but I've used transit there and it works reasonably well.

Tundra/Desert (Vlad) is a good reference if you have Bay Area Transit questions.

You could probably get a ride from the Richmond BART station from someone going to the event. I can post to the club email list if you like. Certainly it would be easy to get a ride going back.
The El Cerrito Del Norte station is closer to I-80, though. Easier for someone coming from the south to divert.
I am probably going to the event; I could probably pick you up.

(From the course setter for the event)

Although in theory you could certainly run to Point Pinole from Richmond BART, the BART station is right in the middle of one of the Bay Area's sketchiest neighborhoods.

You probably wouldn't encounter any trouble on a Sunday morning, but taking the bus or getting a ride is probably a better idea.

@origamiguy that would be great. Looks like I'll be coming from SF, but happy to meet at any BART station along the way. How can I get a hold of you? Or give my details to someone else who might be going?

We can give a ride to anyone from the El Cerrito Plaza BART station, (To Pt Pinole or any event for that matter.)

MCrone, only a small percentage of Bay Area orienteers look at AttackPoint. You'd be better off posting queries like this (and the ones you asked in the other thread about your trip out here) to our club's mailing list, baoc (at) yahoo groups.com. We have lots of people who like to help visitors! Speaking of which, you mentioned in the other thread that you'd like to spend a day in Marin (good idea, btw). You could take the ferry from SF to Larkspur; I might be able to help after that, depending on the timing. Write me at dennisw (at) dennisw.com if you like.
