Wow! Sara Mae and Larry have done so much in orienteering. Until now I only had an inkling of her marathon history. I knew she was there at the beginning of women's marathoning in Boston but not how it happened.
Thank you for posting the article.
Larry and Sara Mae are the most wonderful couple to be around, interesting, supportive and always encouraging. I have enjoyed their company over the years.
Sara Mae was a role model though the years to many girls, including my daughter, who had her picture pinned to the wall of her room. Glad to see Sara and Larry looking so well.
What a lovely article! They are an inspiration.
Great article. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for posting this; we'll be watching for Sara Mae with a gun in her hand! And I particularly enjoyed the ski-o video where she hands her map to some guy at the finish.
I love the picture of Sara Mae and Larry running hand-in-hand. So sweet.
'to some guy at the finish'
Some old O guy at the finish:-). Vanishing species, where is NEOC #1?
I have 72 WOC '93 mugs Per Stensby held that need to make their way to the Berman's before auction fund raising, West Point maybe.
She's also mentioned in today's race coverage (eighth paragraph):
https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/15/sport/123rd-boston-...
Just a bit of a mention....
....Desiree (Des) Linden, who last year became the first American woman to win Boston since 1985, finished fifth Monday. She was trying to become the first American woman to win back-to-back Boston Marathon titles since Sara Mae Berman won three in a row from 1969-1971....
That's our Sara Mae! And knowing her, the three-in-a-row might have been just because she was
looking for Jock Semple!
