Discussion: OUSA 2019 JWOC Team Trials

in: QOC Junior Nationals (Apr 13–14, 2019 - Stafford, VA, US)

As previously announced in the 2019 JWOC Selection Criteria, on April 12-14, 2019, Orienteering USA will be holding team trials for the 2019 Junior World Orienteering Championships, in conjunction with the OUSA Junior Nationals (April 13-14, on Marine Corps Base Quantico, in Northern Virginia). All junior (born 1999 & later) orienteers who would want to participate in the Team Trials should read through the entire selection criteria and determine their eligibility prior to registering.

Quantico Classic and 2019 Junior Nationals website

The JWOC Team Trials Sprint race will take place on the campus of George Mason University (Fairfax, VA) at around 4:00 PM on Friday, April 12. The Sprint is a completely separate event, but those who register for the Junior Nationals, and indicate they wish to compete in the JWOC Team Trials, will be automatically registered for the Sprint. At least at this time, due to venue restrictions and very limited event staff, the Sprint race will be limited to JWOC Team Trials participants only.

VERY important note

ALL persons, age 18 and older, who participate in the races -- or just spectate -- on MCB Quantico, MUST register for the event (those who will not race simply select "Not competing" for the races, for which there is no cost). After registering, you will be directed to a separate, secure online form on which you will enter your event confirmation number -- NOT your name! -- and social security (USA) or passport (non-USA) number. Please see the event registration information page for full details on this requirement.

Best wishes for your best races!

Chair, Junior Team Executive Steering Committee (JTESC)

Also note that traffic on I-95 heading back to DC on Sundays can be *very* slow. Plan accordingly! There are few alternative routes -- primarily Rt 1 (also tends to be similarly slow.)
Fridays heading south are similarly traffic-clogged.
Welcome to the nation's capital.

If you have an E-ZPass (or interoperable) toll transponder, you could opt for the High-Occupancy* Toll (HOT) lanes. They're reversible, but typically operate in the direction of heavier traffic. Please note, however, that the toll rates are variable (and posted), and are based on -- you guessed it -- the amount of congestion in the "free" lanes.

A good option if you're in a rush. The lanes should be going south on Friday, north on Sunday.

Just watch out for how much they are when you enter the lanes. These tolls can get very high...$20+

@kissy
I-95 SB was horrendous today
Dale City to Stafford was $27 -- and the express lanes were also jammed.

Wow, Siri blew out the field. Nice work! To the course setter - shorten the women's course by 300-500m next time, that wasn't quite a sprint.

It was the same course for men and women.

The women's list appears to not be sorted by total, is that right? And the men's list is almost, but not quite?

Now may we have the splits for the sprint course? I am honestly very curious about where I ended up on most of the controls.
