Where can I find background/history on the origin of the Bjorn Kjellstrom cup? (I have a radio interview on Friday and want to be prepared if asked).

Not sure of the origin. Maybe long time competitors (PG? Omaps?) could weight in?

List of champions is here -- http://orienteeringusa.org/bjorn-kjellstrom

In searching for a possible history, I came across this article from 1982 in the NYT archives, which is interesting reading too. :-)

Try the Bermans for the origin of the BK Cup as about the same time they donated a similar cup for competition among the 'veteran' age groups.
But failing a more comprehensive history these talking points may help.
Bjorn Kjellstrom was THE driving force behind the founding of both the US and Canadian Orienteering federations (not the front man but whenever anything was needed he was there to help)
After 10 years of individual NAOC championships Bjorn decided both the competition and our national team developments would be enhanced by a competition between the North American countries so he donated the cup which was first contested in 1980.
