O Joy:
This summer NJP athletes will be hard at work training and competing in the US, at Jukola, in Denmark, at the European Youth Orienteering Championships in Bulgaria, at JWOC in Hungary, and at NAOC in the Yukon. Support the National Junior Program by challenging athletes to punch as many controls as possible between May 1 and Aug. 21!

O Joy:
Challengers Rules:
1. You may challenge an individual member by pledging any whole dollar amount you choose per control, with a minimum of $1 each. You are encouraged to set a dollar limit at whatever amount you are comfortable with. This year’s NJP members are named here.

2. Multiple challengers may challenge the same athlete. Each control will be worth the combined total of the pledges from challengers.

3. You may challenge a certain group of athletes to reach a combined total with the minimum pledge per control is $1, and you may set any limit. For instance, challenge all the NJP members who belong to your local O-club at a given amount per control, with all those members’ controls adding up to your chosen limit.

4. Challenges are made via email to ojoy650916@gmail.com. Please include your real name and preferred contact method - email (preferred), phone, attackpoint message - along with the athlete(s) you wish to challenge, the dollar amount per control, and your total limit. Challenges can also be made on Attackpoint. You may challenge anonymously, if you wish - we’ll do our best to keep your identity known only to those needed to administer the pledge. Just let us know in your email.

5. The Challenge ends Aug. 21, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. We expect to provide a tally of your pledges met by the end of Aug..

6. Please fulfill your pledge via Orienteering USA’s website: http://orienteeringusa.org/support Click the Donate button to use a credit card (preferred), or see the instructions below the button for mailing a check. On the credit card page, check the box for “Team USA: Junior Team” and in the text box below, type “Control Challenge.”

Athletes Rules:
1. Controls may be those you encounter at a meet or in training. Beyond O-flags, they could be streamers, pin flags, or features mapped and assigned by your coach, trainer, or club.

2. No control may be counted more than once by the same athlete, even if it’s used twice or more on a course.

3. Start and Finish do not count as controls.

4. The Challenge runs from May 1 to Aug. 21, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. in your local time zone. Log the meet or training with the number of controls and post or link the map on AttackPoint as soon as possible after each meet or training. All submissions must be complete by the Aug. 21 deadline.

5. Individual athletes will not collect money for meeting their challenges. All proceeds will go the National Junior Program.

I challenge all JDT athletes to 5 controls, all JNT athletes to 15 controls. Matched by I Know My Way, LLC if all NJP athletes log at least 5 controls. Plus $10 for every JNT or JWOC/JWOC alternate who reaches 150 controls.

rm:
I pledge $300 if any individual JNT member visits and reports 300 controls, and $150 if a JDP member visits and reports 150 controls, all per the Athletes Rules above.

Eleven JDT/JNT athletes punched a total of 241 controls at the Billy Goat XL this weekend. Encourage their teammates to get out into the woods as well by pledging to the NJP control challenge.

I challenge Caroline Sandbo at $2 per control, up to 300 controls, and (separately)
all the other members of the JNT and JDT who are members of Cascade O.C., at $1 per control, up to a combined total of 400 controls.

We have a generous pledge specifically for Bridget Hall to punch as many controls as possible for $1/control from Suzanne and Tony Federer.

Jordan Hertel has logged 39 controls so far. I pledge $1 for every control over 100 that Jordan gets during the challenge.

I'd like to suggest to challenge organizers that they make a slight change to the rules to allow 24 or 48 hours after the August 21 closing date of the challenge for logs to be updated and maps to be posted, instead of ending the challenge at midnight and requiring that logs and maps be immediately updated.

How do you add pictures of your maps to your log?
Jul 18, 2018 5:31 PM #
JanetT:
Upload them to a service like Google or Flickr. Flickr provides easy share text to copy/paste into your log. If there's an image size in the copies text, adjusting it to 400pixels wide gives best results as that's the width of the main-view column.
