Today Lance Armstrong became the 5th person and 1st American to win the Tour de France 5 times (all in a row in his case). It was the bottom headline on cnn.com, just behind "cosmonaut space-wedding off." How does this bode for other sports we love when possibly the best individual american athelete today can't get top billing on a Sunday evening in his own country after winning the most grueling bike race in the world 5 years in a row? And not only that, he was sponsored by the US postal service, and rides an american-made production bike (albeit an unaffordable one). I ride a Trek myself, although mine is somewhat heavier and rustier - like its rider. Tyler Hamilton finished well too - 4th overall (6 mins back after 2100 miles of racing).

Go Lance! It thought it was pretty big news last year, but I haven't heard much this year. Apparently it's becoming old news to the public...

It certainly isn't old news here in Europe - we've gotten to watch several stages on TV and one (at Alp d'Huez!!!!) live, in person. The Tour is still big news in Europe, and Lance has been in the headlines.
