For a start: let's all like this thread on Strava Support:

Ah, so that's why all of a sudden three new comments appeared...
Asngar: let's shake that tree :-) yes we can!
Ditto for Garmin Connect.
Yeah, done! Now is time to vote :-)) Sharing is caring!
They can't even spell it correctly.
What a coincidence- I just independently sent a request to them a couple days ago asking for them to add it. The response I got was "Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. I have assigned your ticket over to the Community Team for review." I am actually talking to their product manager soon, so I will try to put in a good word for our sport =) Wouldn't it be cool if they could upload orienteering maps too?
@hillanddale, I suspect that's not really a misspelling: "orientering" is how the Scandinavians write it =)
When orienteers start trying to beat their 'segments', I will stop doing the sport.
I'm confused, why do we need this exactly?
@tricky how many segments are you?
thanks for kicking this off. it would be nice to organize my orienteering activities as such and it's also practical to have a separate category for less stoppage time (I've been recording as a hike)
It won't happen. There were once two skiing types "nordic skiing" and "cross country skiing" and it took them years to merge the two despite, many, many requests. There are still people asking for "classic' and "skate" skiing as separate activity types, but that hasn't happened yet either after years and years.
At least you can call orienteering "running" with some accuracy and have it count in your weekly totals.
The cynic in me thinks that Strava's entire codebase is littered with hard-coded references to "Run", and the whole thing will come crashing down if they start messing with it. :)
Juffy you a cynic I would never believe that!
I wonder if they'd also consider adding features like those in routegadget, splitsbrowser etc.
