I want everyone that is coming to the US Champs to know that the US Juniors are doing a one day Junior concession stand on Saturday. I have been told that the saturday event is a good ways from any kind of amendities and that it would be a good place for the juniors sell some lunch, so we are. We plan to sell hamburger, hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, soda, gatorade, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, chips and a few other munchies. You will find us near the down load building from 10:30ish to 2:30 - 3PM so make sure you stop by for a bite to eat after your race. Also we are looking for help from any junior attending and a few junior parents to help cover the concession while we are in the woods.

Mmm, prewrapped sausages. Do we have to wait until we're finished with our courses, or can we stop by between controls?

hamburger, hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, soda, gatorade, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, chips...

How about stopping by the local orchard and getting a crate of fresh fruit, like crisp apples, to sell by the piece or bag-full. After all, this is harvest season. And us older folks want to support the Juniors, but can't eat much from that menu.

Clark, maybe you can stop by an orchard and buy fruit to donate to the Junior Team to sell... that way they can raise even more money.

:-)

Janet and Dennis (not from the Quantico area) do a lot for the Juniors and would love additional contributions to their efforts.

Actually, I suspect Quantico will probably have some kind of fruit at the finish line. But I'm sure J&D wouldn't mind some kind of contribution. They buy all the food, and I don't think they get too much repayment, if any. And they do all the cooking!

I, for one, will be totally happy to chow down a burger or four after finishing the 13km blue course on Saturday! Thanks Janet for organizing this!

Thanks for the encouragement Janet T and Boris, It is greatly appreciated as it is all we get for our efforts besided a sandwich in between waiting on customers. As to healthy foods such as fruits and veggies, we have tried them in the past and usually end up with most of them still left at the end of the sale. I have come to the conclusion that because there are so many kinds and everyone has thier favorite, they bring them along to supplement what we are offering to round out here meal. They are too costly for us to buy and then have to give them away at the end because they didn't sell. That cuts into what profit we have made to begin with. If someone wants to buy a bag of apples or whatever and donate it to us we will gladly sell it.

See you all on saturday~

OK. I'll be driving around Va. beforehand, scouting out the sites of PG's "rogaine" tour last fall. So I'll look for an opportunity to buy some fruit to donate.

I'm with Boris. Rumor has it that a lot of those 13K will be through some shade of green. Hope you guys are bringing enough for some big appetites.

13km+Prince William forest+a burger or four ≠ good health

The Beyond Beef Campaign believes that there is a better way:

Every single day in the United States, 4,000 lives are taken by heart attacks and almost nothing is being done about it....connections have been drawn between diet and cancers of the colon and prostate. In fact, according to the National Cancer Institute, some 80 percent of cancer deaths are attributable to smoking, diet, and other identifiable and controllable factors. Foods rich in fat and oils increase our cancer risk...

This talk of heart attacks and such can easily be avoided despite indulging in tasty beef burgers and savory sausages loaded with saturated fat. The formula is simple:
Lipitor 10 mg - once a day!

Please take it to the appropriate forum. Its bad enough to prickle volunteers (for which I held my tongue on the long thread that that could become -- Janet you're a saint, and save a big juicy burger for me :-)), but to proselytize about eating habits is just too much.

And please don't recycle the carbon footprint thread either :)

Boris, I'll match your hamburger eating quantity (it's for a good cause!) after the WRE, even if it means I die 14 minutes ahead of the current schedule.

I am always whining about the fact that I need to be fed at these meets, or I forget to eat. So, if Janet can arrange to have my lunch delivered sometime between 12-1 (2 cheeseburgers only - I am no Boris) - I will donate an additional $25 to the Jr Team above the cost of my lunch.

Valerie, you are on!! I will get your order personally when I download and deliver it as quickly as possible!!!

And if Valerie will let me download the data currently on my SI card on Thursday night, I will donate another $25.

Are you pulling my leg, or did you forget to download at your last event, Shelagh? If the latter, I can't help you Thursday night unless you come by my house in Arlington, but I can at the meet on Friday. If the former - :).

I didn't forget - I was a bit late getting back :) But since it was 1 control that I really blew, I would like to see the other splits. If you could download them for me on Friday, I would really appreciate it. Note that my $25 donation will be in $US - just in case anyone is wondering. I'll look for some Canadian peeps for you too. I've never seen them, but the only "candy" I eat (other than dark chocolate which is a food group, not a candy) is nicorettes, and they're in a different section.

Ah, got it. Sure, I will be happy to download you on Friday before you Clear for the Sprint. I would have done it for nothing :), but I am sure Janet will be thrilled with the contribution. Thanks for thinking of it.
