This will be the first forest only World Championships in the “Split WOC” model with three disciplines; middle distance, long distance and forest relay.

Still not sure how I feel about this.

Sounds like what WOC 93 had (in America, held several miles from this year's West Point event).

Indeed - it's basically the same format (middle qual, middle final, long, relay) as 1991 and 1993.

Rhombus, didn't your dad compete in WOC 93?

Compete? Compete? The BG was not in grade 8 intermurals or anything like that.

Yes he did, that was his best WOC ever! 9th in the first leg of the relay beating Norway into the exchange.

The most interesting (but sad?) part of this announcement is that WOC 2019 will effectively become a repeat of WOC 2016!

The minimum driving distance between this year's WOC and the one in Sarpsborg is just 30 min or so, which is comparable to or less than the distances between the individual terrains to be used.

Since we have a summer home nearby I get to attend all the public/spectator races for both WOCs, that's the good part. :-)
