Boris has made the final update to the standings before the Finals this Saturday.

---------------------

Here is some info about the courses for Saturday. Full meet notes should be on the WCOC web site this evening.

The courses

There are two A meet sprints and a third Final sprint to determine the Sprint Series Champion. Everyone not making the final may run the Champs course after the Finals are complete, for a $10 donation to the US Team. There are three different courses offered for the first two sprints.

For Sprint A the distances, climb and number of controls are as follows:
Course 1 (White/Yellow): 1.06 km, climb 24m, 6 controls
Course 2 (Orange/Brown/Green): 1.71 km, climb 33m, 12 controls
Course 3 (Red/Blue): 2.22 km, climb 51m, 15 controls

For Sprint B the distances, climb and number of controls are as follows:
Course 1 (White/Yellow): 1.20 km, climb 21m, 7 controls
Course 2 (Orange/Brown/Green): 1.80 km, climb 43m, 10 controls
Course 3 (Red/Blue): 2.33 km, climb 52m, 13 controls

Scoring for the each of the first two sprints will be as follows:
Course 1: 30, 29, 28?
Course 2: 40, 39, 38?
Course 3: 100, 95, 90, 85, 80, 78, 76, 74, 72, 70, 69, 68?
Points scored for each of the two sprints, men and women scored separately. The top 6 men and 6 women overall in the series (best 6 previous sprints, plus each sprints here) advance to the finals. Ties are broken by points scored in Sprint B, then by points scored in Sprint A, and finally by a coin flip if needed.

For the Sprint Final the distance, climb and number of controls are as follows:
Final Course: 3.15 km, climb 33m, 21 controls

100, 95, 90... Oh darn. I was hoping that with 100, 99, 98... I could save some energy for the final sprint and the Sunday relay. Not so, apparently, as even taking it easy on the first Sprint could drop me right out of the top 6... Will need to do some proper refueling between Sprints! What should I eat/drink in the short gaps between 3 Sprints?

As a disinterested observer of this competition and someone who has only your best interests at heart, I recommend you eat salo and drink vodka.

The Kiev training did not go wasted, Eric :), and Wyatt has no problems obtaining necessary ingredients for success

Is the start list ready yet? What's a woodland grove?

Start list should be up this evening, I believe.

What's a woodland grove?

A copse.

Joe:
I think a woodland grove is an area in the forest where there is no understory and you can sit on a blanket and have a picnic.

Hei I could attest to the effectiveness of the salo and vodka, I will be happy to join you in the refueling process.

So here are the top 6 women and men of those coming, plus the nearest challengers:

Pavlina Brautigam 249
Samantha Saeger 243
Angelica Riley 221
Susan DeWitt 209
Janet Tryson 188
Pia Webb 179

Natalia Babeti 177
Valerie Meyer 177
Peggy Dickison 171
Kathy Bullard 148
Judith Karpinski 135
Cristina Luis 131
Hillary Saeger 131
Mary Jones 130
Gayle Ryan 113

-----------------------------------

Jon Torrance 284
John Fredrickson 253
Ross Smith 251
Eric Bone 244
Wyatt Riley 225
Gerald Yip 209

Mikkel Conradi 207
Maricel Olaru 196
Brendan Shields 196
Gregory Balter 194
Peter Grollman 193
Michael Lyons 192
JJ Cote 182
Ted Good 182
Egils Robs 177

It looks like the top few have a relatively easy route to the final, IF they don't do something stupid and miss a control or go out of order. And the rest of the top 6 positions are definitely in play.

Still planning on having "big checks" (and real cash) for the winners of series as well as the winners of the head-to-head finals.

I'm glad to see that Peter excluded Nate (191) from the list of challengers. A boy has no business in a man's race.

nate:
Hey!!!

Well, I have a feeling that when Nate takes care of business this weekend his 'old man' will regret his choice of words.

Start lists have been posted.

Mike, I am sure Peter would have happily included Nate on the list of sprint finals challengers if he was on the start list (especially if he was running the RB course). You know how Peter likes to fan the flames. If Nate is supposed to be registered, then you need to contact the registrar.

Any chance WCOC could post the list of registered relay teams the event web site says ought to be at http://www.faculty.fairfield.edu/rdewitt/wcoc/2007... and a list of currently uncommitted runners who have registered for the relay? I don't want to start approaching people by email without knowing whether they're committed to an eligible team but it could get a bit chaotic if most of those assembling ineligible teams have to do all the legwork at the meet site on Saturday before the team entry deadline.

walk:
The relay team membership has not been forthcoming so far. As of Monday am, we had no teams declared although lots of registrations for the relay. We are anticipating chaotic lists appearing at 2:00 pm Saturday.

We can put up a sign-up list Friday night and Saturday for those seeking a team.

Nate's registration has been resolved, and he comes into the weekend just one point behind Mike.

JanetT:
jtorrance, I know of two unattached EMPO members (Dylan Thies, HOC primary; Candice Raines, GMOC primary) who don't have a team at this point. Dylan is 20 and not worth much in points; Candice is 55+. Both are signed up for the sprints on Saturday...

We have received very little information on the relay team make-ups so far. We have lots of relay registrations, but we don't know how to assign the teams. The registration crew would be most grateful for any insight into the team make-up: names, leg to run, points, etc. The stuff on the web site form. Then the data can be sorted early rather than late into Saturday night. We can withhold the information if desired, for your competitive reasons, just would rather it not be withheld from us.

Please send pertinent info to the registrar (see website) or let us know Friday night.

Cristina:
will people be able to register on Saturday for Saturday's sprints? recreationally?
Sep 21, 2007 3:10 AM #
walk:
You can register Saturday, but we would prefer to know as much info ahead of time as possible. So email info to the registrar and complete formalities Saturday.

No Rec courses. Sorry.
