How is the US #1 team going to do?

My purely calculated placing is 388.

179 - A bit ambitious, but definitely possible. As long as we beat my clubs second team I will be happy.

No Predictions: the goal is to be in top 200, anything less then 250 is satisfactory for first time

I don't want to predict either, because I haven't got a clue about the difficulty of coming top 100 vs 200 vs 300 etc.

But one thing I am hoping for, is that everybody has a decent safe run without any major mistakes - sounds trite, but I ran a 7-man relay in France a month ago where we had a decent, but not amazing team where everyone had a good to very good run and most importantly no one made more than 5 Minutes of mistakes in their run.

We ended up 2nd (in the 2nd division, mind you) of 30 teams, beating a good number of teams with "better" lineups but where at least one person had lost 20 minutes.

It will be quite an experience. I can't imagine running a mass start race with 1000 other teams! I hope you guys perform to your expectations and take lots of pictures!

Although most, if not all of you, are already headed for Sulkava - GOOD LUCK!! Kick some Scandanavian butt!! Wish I could have managed to fill a spot on that #2 team, but circumstances precluded that....

The live Jukola coverage is very good. Even without understanding Finnish, the quick result updates (including from some controls in the forest) combined with the video makes it very easy to follow the race.

This is Mary, not Spike. (He's on his way to Toronto). I just watched the start: very impressive to see 1000 runners heading in to the woods. They showed the US runner taking off his warm up suit. It looked like Eric; was he the first runner? Cool to be sitting in KC watching him run in Finland, live.
