Discussion: optional mass start

I am curious how the "optional" mass start went.
About what % chose the mass start over the interval start?
Hey Eric, the mass start was very fun and lots of head to head orienteering over multiple courses.
I would say about 40 to 50 percent of the participants took part in the mass start. The weather kind of kept people away from a beautiful and cool summer orienteering event.
About 30 percent of the runners choose red or blue. While a few green and orange runners left wanting more.
The mass start also attracted more than the normal crowd but also brought in some rogainers. And after the fun and joy of the mass start they joined the club. With the influx of rogainers we sold out of the blue maps within the first hour. So maybe for the next event I would print some extras or set up a simple preregistration just to find out how many maps to print.
Over all it was a very fun day and might be a good way to attract more athletes that are looking for head to head competition as opposed to individual starts.
sounds fun and a good participation rate in the mass start.
I was curious if, when given the option for non-mass start, people would go for the interval start since that is what they are used to.
well done! we have a similar event at Nolde next month.
