(For Parkino reference, it took 25 minutes, mainly to convert the course to a usable format).
undy, for score courses like the summer series I suggest you use a map image that has all of the controls on it - makes it easier to see why people went where they did (route choice and scoring options)
Ta - I'd forgotten that trick, also makes aligning map much easier.
Probably beyond my patience threshold at the end of an SSS.
if I get the map and course files I add register crosses near the 4 corners of the area that will be saved as a map image, and put 4 extra controls on the register marks, say 301, 302, 303, 304.
When I export the gif image and course xml files & load into RG, the extra controls are obvious as they are usually the outermost control circles, and I don't have to read fine detail when fitting and saving the map image - usually takes at most 2 passes of the fitting to get an acceptable fit.
I also use the register crosses when I am georeferencing the map image in Google Earth - get the best fit for the image then read off the coords of the crosses in lat/long, & in pixels using Irfanview or similar - add the three sets of coords in RG manager - again the register cross is easier to identify & use than a symbol on the map.
That doesn't sound complicated at all!
you're right - it's not complicated, & a good quick check on map scale, orientation & distortion.
"complicated" is trying to work out how someone has managed to stuff up the splits file in a previously unknown fashion (some people are very creative with program settings)
