I do believe that this is Jon Torrance's first Canadian title and maybe Patrick's first medal as well at Nationals. Brent I think has at least one medal, but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure Pam has been on the podium before if not has a trophy named after her.
Congrats to all, and good luck on the weekend.

Some photos of the Sprint and Middle. I didn't use my normal lab, and these seem to not be corrected as nicely as I'd like. If it's too white or too dark, that might be fixable if I have the negative re-scanned.

There are high-res files if you click through. The high-res files are big---about 4MB each.

Congratulations to all competitors that took on the challenge of the relentlessly challenging courses in the very high temperatures. Many people did not complete their courses due to the extraordinary heat.

Congratulations also to the Saskatchewan Orienteering Association for hosting their first ever major event with competence and style.

The Eb's Trails map is one of the most technical in Canada and I think everyone is looking forward to having another shot at orienteering in this wonderful terrain - but maybe next time in the fall, with lower temperatures and whiter forest

I am trying to load the event into RouteGadget but I'm having a minor problem. Hopefully this will be working in the next couple of days

Those are awesome photos Cedarcreek, and thanks again for giving us hard copies. I would like to use some for ONA. Let me know if that would be okay.

Well, so much for Aussie blood - I've gone soft after living in the US northeast too long... I went brain-dead around 75 minutes in, and got worse and worse thereafter. I don't think Mark enjoyed the heat much more than I did.

But it was great fun, and I'd really like to thank the organizers. Owing to travel problems, I only made it to the middle and long, which were both excellent. Particularly the short-notice fixes to the long course, which definitely kept the winning times under 2:30...

It was some of the most difficult terrain I've ever run on. I've never made nine minutes of mistakes in the first 15 minutes of a middle distance course and still almost won before. (Mike Smith started two minutes in front of me, was 11 minutes in front by control 9 (15 minutes for him, 24 for me), and again just 2:09 in front at the finish (24 more minutes for him, 15 for me) (we ended up second and third, 90 seconds behind Patrick. Congratulations to the winners. As I said to a couple of people, I was happy PG wasn't around, or a few scalps might have been taken...

Nev, you are right. I have won a medal at COC's before. After this past weekend, 7, in fact. But no golds :-(

It was indeed challenging terrain on the weekend for all the reasons Gouger mentioned in the other post. I can't believe I am going to post such an embarrassing display for all to see but anyway you can see the map from the long distance with my course on it on my blog.

Much like Will in the middle, I was amazed to find out that this was still good enough for 3rd. I almost quit at the spectator control, like Mark, before deciding to continue.

Barbie---You're welcome. The only reason I was using film was in the hope some of the photos might be good enough for ONA---the cover in particular. Donna F. has some constraints for the cover that require higher resolution than my digital can do. As I mentioned above, some of them appear to be bad exposures. But what I didn't explain was that often the negative can be re-scanned to account for the bad exposure. If you or Donna F. see any you want to use that aren't quite good enough, I can get them re-scanned if the negative appears to have detail that isn't showing up.

A good example of this is the grass in the shade at the bottom of the sunny sprint images. I exposed for that shadow area, and I'm sure it has detail on the negative that isn't showing up in these scans. Hopefully "difficult exposure" is more correct than "bad exposure."

I think you certainly have "cover" potential with these photos - no doubt.
I'll get in touch wtih you when my article is finished and need some photos.
Thanks again
