+1 to ken's comment. I'm a total sloth when I roll out of bed and immediately go run - flat paved 10 minute miles suck... I'm not sure what would happen if I tried intervals.
I've done intervals on the track at 5 in the morning. It's mentally really hard to get out there and do them, and they're not the best quality. But if that's the only time you can fit them in ... much better than nothing.
