Great to see you have all been training well and staying injury free...mostly, I think.

Have an easy week this week so you are well rested for the carnival.
I generally like to start a carnival dying to run, but you will probably have to find what works best for you. All the hard work should have already been done in the preceding weeks.

Good week to print out the maps and have a good look at them.
What strategy will you use for each terrain?

Sprint is a pretty typical campus map.
So the usual.
Maintain contact.
Run only as fast as you can maintain good control flow.
Sprint is all about control flow to minimize time loss.
If you can do Griffith and UQ, you will be fine.

Relays is in an interesting area with marshy areas and a pine plantation as well on part of the map.
Main challenge for me was making sure I was on the right contour level because the marshy minor water course would run down up to 8 contours and the control would be on one of the junctions. So being at the correct control level was important so be aware of of whether y are meant to be climbing or descending a contour level on the way to the next control. Or have a good collecting feature or attack point.
Most of the map is open as well.

I have only ran on those maps.

In St Helens, as you know it will be pretty tough with marshes again with hills and boulders.
I usually try not to run straight through the middle of the marshy areas as it is really hard running as well as wet and those button grass patches are rather uneven as well.
So it is probably best to run along the edge of the forest, then zip across quickly, and then continue on the other side, etc.
Of course it all depends on where you are going and you can assess the marsh condition as you run.
Maintain contact across vague terrain.

Some of you are in a team, so you should be getting tips as well.

All the very best and do approach me if you want to discuss your course after your run.

Have fun!
