According to
Randy's O calendar, the 2008 US classic champs have not been awarded (nor are there any bids in sanctioning). Is there a real possibility that there will be no champs next year? Is any club preparing a bid?
Seems hard to credit when I see four two day classic events on Randy's calendar. Though three of them are in the winter, which might not be such popular timing. Optimistically, perhaps it's a golden opportunity for NEOC's planned fall A meet.
Are we discussing the "U.S. Individual Orienteering Championships" (a name in need of improvement, although "Classic" is little better, since it's a format that no longer officially exists), which are traditionally contested in the antiquated two-day format? Maybe this is a signal that it's time to modernize our Championships.
My mistake. I see in the rules that the name of the event in question has been changed to "Classic Orenteering Championships" [sic]. I also noticed that the Long Distance Championships has been changed to the "Extended Distance" Championships. I understand the need to rename it, but that name is way too catchy!
