Did some testing on the 920XT lately - comparing with Polar V800 and 910XT,

- GLONASS did not give me any improvements under the conditions I tested
- Barometer-based altitude is significantly better (with respect to repeatability) than 910XT - should now be usable for comparing routechoices
- Overall usability a bit confusing with the sports profiles - you can be unlucky and choose a mode without GPS "by chance"
- Nice to be able to transfer fit-files directly from the watch using USB mass storage mode
- Nice to be able to transfer directly to mobile phone (and further to Garmin Connect and Strava) without using the computer - the same as for 620, but 620 did not have the barometer.

BTW: There will soon be possibility to link your Strava account with 2DRerun for some sort of automatic upload, there are some details I need to look at. Will be nice with e.g. the Forerunner 920XT were you can then get data directly into 2DRerun without using the computer.

Strava to 2d-Rerun. Nice.

Jan---Would it require Strava Premium? I know you can only download gpx files from other people with Premium, but I can't remember if you need Premium to download your own gpx files. I remember thinking of Strava (non premium) as a black hole for gpx files, even your own.

On an average, multiple Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) devices will provide better accuracy. The two currently global systems, GPS and GLONASS, will give an improvement by some 40 % longer term. Doubling the visible satellites is a very good thing especially in mountainous terrain and in urban canyons. Around Chinese latitudes their Beidou exists also. GLONASS is better towards the polar regions since the satellite orbits reach higher latitudes (inclination of ~65° vs. GPS ~55°). GNSS devices tend to better with their newer technology.

@cedarcreek: No, you won't need Strava Premium. You will log in with your Strava account and couple it to 2DRerun - then you can browse your Strava runs in 2DRerun and choose which to upload. I also plan to provide a possibility to auto-upload all runs with "orienteering" or similar in the title (I can't autoupload all since then there would be a lot of "rubbish" - i.e. non-orienteering activity...) - alternatively routes where there is a map in the vicinity the same day.

My test implementation is ready, I just need to get the head over water after Course of the Year, Achievement of the Year and Route to Christmas to be able to focus on it again ...

@NEOC#1: I know the theory, but in my practical tests I did not see significant improvements. Probably the conditions were "too good" with good visibility and enough GPS-satellites visible all the time.
