Don't miss the capstone event of the 2014 DVOA Orienteering Season!

With Ridley FoxTrot taking a one year hiatus due to an embargo for the spring Ridley FoxTrot A-Event, the annual end-of-the year DVOA orienteering extravaganza will take place at White Clay Creek State Park.

Orienteering Courses:
The forest today at White Clay Creek borders on the sublime. With rolling fields, and glades of open forest, today’s courses will take runners on a grand tour of arboreal splendor. From a practical point of view, there is little to note. A smidgeon of out-of-bounds may be encountered on the White, Red, and Blue courses. These small areas are easily negotiated on the trails or open areas that run alongside, and are indicated with a purple overprint on the competitors’ maps. The White, Yellow, Orange, and Blue courses will go through a Frisbee golf area; please be considerate in this multiuse park. There is a mandatory bridge crossing on Blue and Red courses; the same bridge will be crossed twice on each of these courses. Please be careful to take the controls in the right order, and check the control codes after the crossing. Good luck and have fun!

Hot Refreshments: an encore performance by no one other than Ann MacMullan!

The Dashing Deer Drawing: Anybody who joins DVOA or renews their membership at the event will be entered into The Dashing Deer Drawing. The winners will be unveiled (and prizes awarded) at 2:45PM. You have to be present to win!

Adopt-A-Meet: Sign up to be an Event Director or a Course Setter for the DVOA 2015 season at this event, and you will be entered into the Adopt-A-Meet Raffle Drawing. The Raffle will take place at 2:45PM.

Award Ceremony: Prizes will be given to the winner of each course (top male and top female) at the conclusion of the event at 3:10PM. You have to be present to win!

As they say, the time is running... there are precious few opportunities left to expiate the bad controls, the misread contours, the indolent trudges up hills we all committed in 2014. Don't finish the year with orienteering regrets or bad memories. Expunge all that. Invigorate the mind, brace the body, and charge the soul at what is sure to be one of the finest events in the NE US in 2014. With a different name, but the same management, the thinly veiled White Clay Deer Dash promises a lot, but delivers more.

I've seen the courses, and they are fine. Map printing impeccable. Terrain pretty darn good. Mapping, exacting.

What more could you want? (If you want more, life will probably be disappointing, but who am I to moralize?)

Clear, calm, and in the mid 40s on race day. Conditions are as good as they are going to get as 2014 comes to a close.

Carpe diem.
Carpe cursus rapidum.
Carpe praemium.
