The NAOC2014 Results Centre is now live!

The results centre will have live split results updated every 5 minutes online for each of the three individual races. Race maps will be automatically linked to on this page as soon as each race closes.

Official results and updated cup standings will be posted as soon as we can get them up each day.

A version of the results centre optimized for mobile devices will be available in the arena each day as well.

We're excited to watch (living vicariously this year) ... should we keep standing by?
Oct 11, 2014 3:10 PM #
hughmac4:
Ah ha! Looks like things are starting to flow ... excellent!
Oct 11, 2014 3:21 PM #
anniemac:
Yes keeping my eyes peeled for Pops aka hughmac3!
Oct 11, 2014 7:25 PM #
vmeyer:
If I understand the rules correctly, congratulations go out to Brian May (Canada) and Sandra Lauenstein (USA) who have each secured an automatic spot in the Middle distance race at the 2015 World Orienteering Championships in Scotland by virtue of placing as first North Americans (M/F21) in the Middle distance event today.
Oct 11, 2014 7:26 PM #
vmeyer:
And, hughmac4 and anniemac's Pops clobbered the M75+ competition by almost 15 minutes!
Oct 11, 2014 7:30 PM #
vmeyer:
As long as I have added up things correctly, then I have the unofficial first day score for the BK Cup showing the Canada team ahead by 2 points, 151 to 149.
Oct 11, 2014 7:48 PM #
blairtrewin:
vmeyer - you do understand the rules correctly. Whether or not Brian and Sandra will take up their places is the next question.
Oct 11, 2014 8:07 PM #
Acampbell:
Surely whether they take them or not they are theirs?
Oct 11, 2014 8:10 PM #

Is anyone else having issues with the results? I just get the "this race hasn't started" message. I'm accessing via my cell phone...
Oct 11, 2014 8:12 PM #

Working ok for me

Yes (i.e. if the places aren't taken up, they lapse and do not go to the second placegetters).
Oct 11, 2014 8:16 PM #

Splits by category are working but above that, results by course, is not working.
Oct 11, 2014 8:20 PM #

No splits for me :( vmeyer's link has the same "race hasn't started" message. Hopefully official results are posted soon!

vmeyer:
Ah, well, I tried. ;-)
Oct 11, 2014 8:23 PM #

Interesting, but I don't see a link for Results by Course yet.
Oct 11, 2014 8:29 PM #
furlong47:
Working for me too. For those who can't see it, have you tried a page refresh after going to the link? I also don't see a Results by Course link.
Oct 11, 2014 8:44 PM #
AliS:
The refresh worked! Yay for results! Thank you.
Oct 11, 2014 8:49 PM #

Sorry, that was the Map link that was not working - my mistake.

Do we have confirmation of the BK and FC Cups after the middle? Not sure from the results list who is eligible for scoring but by my quick calcs Canada leads both BK and FC.
Oct 12, 2014 2:47 AM #
vmeyer:
Well, not to be contrary, but my calculations indicate that the FC Cup score isn't quite the same as what Hammer comes up with...I show the USA leading 162 to 123, and that is allowing points for the Canadian W20 who was over 2 hours. Am I mistaken?
Oct 12, 2014 2:54 AM #
Canadian:
Today's official results are now posted as are the People's Cup points. The BK and FC cup points are going to wait until tomorrow when we can go over the points again and make sure we have them right.
Oct 12, 2014 2:55 AM #
Hammer:
Top 3 men and women per country. So most a country can get is (25+22+19)x2=132
Oct 12, 2014 3:12 AM #
vmeyer:
Ah, thanks, I was thinking that I was missing something there... :)

OK, even giving the Canada W20 who was OT 6 points, I am coming up with 108 to 98 in the USA's favor.

M20 USA = 1, 5, 6 and W20 = 1, 2, 5
M20 Can = 2, 3, 4 and W20 = 3, 4, 10 (?)

Using the correct parameters, I think I am coming up with the BK Cup as being Canada 106 to USA 98.

Still could be reading things incorrectly, so we'll have to wait for the official standings tomorrow.
Oct 12, 2014 3:17 AM #
PG:
Getting closer, Valerie. :-) Though not sure if I have it right….

Pam and Kseniya tied for fourth, so the BK cup is 107.5 to 96.5 for Canada.

I had FC Cup as 108 to 98 for USA, but should be 108 to 92 if the 3rd Canadian F20 was overtime.
Oct 12, 2014 3:20 AM #
Hammer:
Yeah I think the issue for my FC calcs was that I thought that the flower ceremony had Canada sweeping junior men so I assumed first place in M20 wasn't eligible. (Edit: it was senior men's that swept for Canada. My mistake). Sure would be good to know in results list who is eligible for these awards.(* not visible on all browsers).

Great effort today for Emma S to decide to race after being sick (missed her start by 50+ minutes)

The FC Cup is such a great idea. Awesome team atmosphere today.
Oct 12, 2014 3:24 AM #
vmeyer:
OK, I agree, Peter, 108 to 98, or 108 to 92 sans OT runner for the FC. Geez, I can't even read my own handwriting (Excel Spreadsheet) correctly. :)

And, I did not notice that pesky tie. So, agreed - I have BK as 107.5 to 96.5 for Canada!

I will do better tomorrow!!

M20 Flower Ceremony

The results show an * for the eligible competitors. Looks like all all M/W20 are eligible.

Kudos to Emma for toeing the line despite feeling poorly.

Also, congratulations to West Point cadet J Johnson who competed on and completed her first W20 course today.
Oct 12, 2014 4:35 AM #
Hammer:
No * on my browser. My bad on M20. Oops.

Hopefully we will have BK cup results at arena tmrw
Oct 12, 2014 12:15 PM #

The * is on the official results, not the splits...

Hardly any of the NAm elites in yet, but looks like a good run from Ross today in the long. Go CSU!
Oct 12, 2014 7:37 PM #
bshields:
By my count, the BK/FC points for today are:

BK Men
Canada: 25+22+19 = 66
USA: 16+10+7 = 33

BK Women
Canada: 9+8+7 = 24
USA: 25+22+19 = 66

FC Men
Canada: 22+10+9 =41
USA: 25+19+16 = 60

FC Women
Canada: 22+19+16 = 57
USA: 25+13+10 = 48

(Edit: wrong, see below)
Oct 12, 2014 8:06 PM #
vmeyer:
I could be wrong, but this is what I get...

The 3rd W21 Canadian score is 5 points, not 7. Removing places 2 & 9 puts the third scorer in 11th place. So, a tie at 195.5?

For the FC, the men are
FC Men
Canada: places 2, 4, 6 = 22+16+10 =48
USA: places 1, 3, 5 = 25, 19, 13 = 57

FC Women
Canada: 22+19+16 = 57
USA: 25+13+10 = 48

So, a tie for the FC Cup on the day, with the overall score USA 213 to CAN 203 (or 197).
Oct 12, 2014 8:16 PM #
bshields:
Ah, ok, yeah that looks right.
Oct 12, 2014 8:21 PM #
vmeyer:
Hey, I have adjusted my file three times already today, so I may be wrong still. :) Just like to play with the numbers since I couldn't actually be there.
Oct 12, 2014 8:25 PM #
bshields:
Well, I'm convinced :). I hadn't checked eligibility and allegiance carefully enough.
Oct 12, 2014 8:28 PM #
vmeyer:
:)
Oct 12, 2014 9:20 PM #
PG:
The results of Day 1 (middle) should be Can 107.5, USA 96.5 in the BK Cup. And USA 108, Can 92 in the FC Cup. The third Canadian woman was overtime and according to the rules should be DQ.

For today, the long, for the BK Cup, the order of finish for the men was --

Robbie 25 (points)
Wil S 22
Damian 19
Ross 16
Graeme 13
Boris 10
Will C 9
Brian 8
Ian 7

Canada is 25+22+19 = 66 USA is 16+10+7 = 33

For the women --

Sam 25
Kseniya 22
Ali 19
Hannah 16
Alison 13
Emily 10
Pam 9
Alex 8
Sandra 7
Tori O 6

So Canada is 10+9+6 = 25 USA is 25+22+19 = 66

Total for the day is Canada 91 USA 99

Total for the two days is Canada 198.5 USA 195.5, so Canada leads by 3

===========

For the FC Cup, Valerie is correct, a tie on the day, and the USA still leads by 16.
Oct 12, 2014 9:35 PM #
vmeyer:
According to the posted start lists, and the results from yesterday, Sanna Sevanto in 6th place overall is US eligible...so, is she, or isn't she?

Sam 25
Kseniya 22
Ali 19
Hannah 16
Insert Sanna 13
Alison 1310
Emily 109
Pam 8
Alex 7
Sandra 6
Tori O 5

If she is US eligible, then it is:

USA 25+22+19 = 66
CAN 9+8+5 = 22

Which results in a BK tie after today...

Which is it?

Gotta love these eligibility issues...don't care either way, but would appreciate a definite.
Oct 12, 2014 9:43 PM #
PG:
Sanna (according to friend Pia Webb), is definitely not a US citizen (she's from Finland). That's what I'm going on. Couldn't actually yet confirm with Sanna.

I realize the entry list says she's eligible, but not everyone has filled that out correctly.
Oct 12, 2014 9:52 PM #
vmeyer:
Agreed -- determination of eligibility is a bear. Recently found out that someone who had been US Champs eligible with a green card for the last 10 years had misunderstood, so each time I had asked her if she was eligible, she said No, because she thought that since was not a US citizen she was not eligible for US Champs. Not the same for NAOC, but still painful to deal with when it comes to results.
Oct 13, 2014 1:20 AM #
erict:
Hi all, just updated middle and long results. Sanna is not US citizen, and some dsq due to overtime.
Oct 13, 2014 3:09 AM #

Good job Eric. It's awesome to see so many APers in the NAOC results.
Oct 13, 2014 10:23 AM #
Tundra/Desert:
Perhaps a future NAOC could have a more thorough eligibility questionnaire, especially if medal-eligibility rules undergo a significant change cf. previous NAOC. (I realize that there was no eligibility parameters change for BK Cup and both sets of rules are the same now.)

Thanks Valerie. Very close once again.
Oct 13, 2014 4:59 PM #

Talk about close, after coach and PG swapped wins each of the first two days, they ended up in a tie today atop the M65 standings. Seems appropriate.

Any news on the relay??
Oct 13, 2014 7:02 PM #
ken:
USA wins both FC and BK cups.

In the relay, the US took 1,2,4,5 with Canada 3rd. But it was a very exciting race because the top spots were always changing. Sam came from 3rd place on the last leg to pass the two Canadian teams that went out in front of her.

Thanks, Ken!

Hammer:
The relay was excellent. Juniors and seniors racing each other on a fast and furious forest and park sprint course. It was so awesome you kinda wish this race was every year!

(Valerie's points need some adjusting since juniors in the sprint can count towards BK points).
Oct 13, 2014 9:44 PM #
PG:
Points in the sprint were USA 101, Canada 92 in the BK cup, and USA 108, Canada 101 in the FC cup.

In the relay it was USA 150, Canada 50 in the BK cup, for an overall total of USA 446.5, Canada 340.5.

And for the FC Cup, it the relay USA 100, Canada 90, and an overall total of USA 421, Canada 388.

Relay was great to watch. And the whole long weekend was a pleasure, very good karma. Many thanks to the Ottawa OC.
Oct 13, 2014 10:34 PM #
peggyd:
Thanks for the updates everyone! The official site doesn't have the BK & FC results yet but this is even better!
Oct 13, 2014 11:14 PM #
vmeyer:
PG - shouldn't that be 40 points for the Canadian relay team in 3rd place, not 50, for a final score of 330.5? :)
Oct 13, 2014 11:35 PM #
PG:
Negative. Including the junior teams, USA was 1, 2, 4, and 5. Canada was 3 and 6. USA gets 70+50+30. Canada gets 40+10. No one got the 20 points for fifth, as only top 3 teams per country counted.

Juniors had to be merged into senior results for both sprint events as they ran the same courses.

Made the scoring more challenging but definitely added spice to both events.
Oct 13, 2014 11:38 PM #
vmeyer:
Ah, missed that part about the relay. Thanks. I will now bow out of the process once and for all.
Oct 13, 2014 11:49 PM #
PG:
To do the scoring properly, you need at least 3 or 4 people. I missed a couple of things along the way. Eligibility was as usual a challenge. Everytime you posted scores it got me doublechecking and that was very useful.
Oct 14, 2014 2:14 AM #
Nev-Monster:
Wow, super exciting sprint relay. Thank god we only do that once every two years in North America. ;)
Oct 14, 2014 3:02 AM #

Final split results for all races and official results for the middle, long, sprint, and relay have now been posted as have final Cup calculations for the BK and FC cups. Please let us know if we are correct in our calculations - we have struggled with getting them right on our first go through this weekend ;)

Hey check out those gold medalists in M 35+, 45+, 55+ on the Long.
It was like a Who Was Who over 3 decades of the Canadian National Team.
Ted de St Croix, Mike Waddington and Brent Langbakk.
(Sorry I couldn't come through to represent the 1970s, guys.)
In fact if Mike hadn't run M 21E in the Middle there is a good chance they would have had a Tim Horton's kind of Results - a Triple/ Double.
Congrats to Ted on his sweep of the highly competitive M 55 class.

Are the final People's Cup results posted anywhere?

Also, perhaps it would be good to put links to the various photos onto the website since many people don't frequent AP

I never saw the competitor guides or whatever they were that were supposed to have athlete bios and pictures. I heard there were particularly cute entries for two of the top American runners. Were they available in the arena? Can we see digital versions now that the event is over?

Oct 26, 2014 8:48 PM #

I hope they put up Route Gadget soon but don't count on seeing many routes posted. It is rare that even as many as 5% of the entries at a Canadian event post their courses on Route Gadget.
Maybe that is why the Americans are cleaning our clocks now! Among other things.
