Running 30:20 [3]
Fel came by to help me hobble around OConnor ovals for a while! Deary me, quads are shot to pieces and foot was killing.

Today at school I even took a chair out to watch the kids do PE. How embarrassing.

Running (Melbourne Marathon) 3:15:04 [3]42.2 km (4:37 / km)
Got up at 5.30am and had some coffee and porridge (and 2 voltarin 50mg and 2 ibuprofen - in case the voltarin was a bad batch as it hasn't seemed to be working at all in the past week), checked out of my accomm and hauled myself and my 10kg bag over to the MCG. I wasn't feeling nervous or pumped at all, which is the opposite of every other fun run I've done this year. I only went to the toilet twice instead of the usual double digits before a race.

Deeks was getting the marathoners pumped at the start line but I was more looking at the girl next to me who didn't have any shoes on - just some tape around her toes. Well, I thought, surely I'm better off than her!

Lined up near the 3.15 pacer man as I aimed to go out at that pace and see what happened with my hammy and any other variables that could occur!

Started out at about 4.30min/kms and felt ok with that apart from the usual pulling/tugging/pain of my hamstring/bum area. It was pretty bad for the first 20km or so and I kept wondering if it was going to cramp up as that's kind of what it felt like. But anyway, pushed on just in front of the 3.15 bus, had a gel at about 20km. Thought I got a min or 2 ahead of the pace bus through the early twenties, but gradually my km rates were getting slower, quite a few around the 4.45min/km.

Quads started making themselves known around the late twenties, also the mental battle started about here - but I was expecting this at some stage! Kept grinding away, but getting slower (and it was really windy along the foreshore). But my hammy pain seemed to have faded which was great.

At about 32km (10km to go!) I heard someone say "Go the 3.15's" and turned around to see the pacer right behind me! Crap, they had caught me up. Damn, I hadn't realised that. Oh well, the only thing I could do was try and hold on. I tucked in behind him and just kept telling myself not to let them go - I knew I would be happy with 3.15, and not as happy if I had a slower time. It was a real mental battle. The kilometres ticked over and I was hanging on as we started passing lots of people. In fact, I don't think anyone passed me in the last 10km but there were lots of people walking or shuffling.

At 41km the time was about 3.10 so I did the quick maths and realised at the current pace we would finish slightly over 3.15, unless I had a kick. I didn't have a kick and my chip time was 3.15.04

Finishing in the MCG was fun but I just wanted to sit down. Had a PAINFUL massage straight after finishing which I only got to help me run on Monday.

Injuries: third degree chafing burns under my sportsbra, a very sore foot (between ankle and little toe) and obviously sore quads. Hammy? Can't tell how it has come up at the moment

Running 22:11 [3]
Melbourne!
A little crawl from Flinders St station through Federation Square and over the pedestrian footbridge to see exactly where to walk for tomorrow. Then over the Yarra and really wanted to do a lap of the Tan but my leg was too annoying and I though I better save every ounce of energy. So I went into the Botanic Gardens for about 100m, stopped, turned around and walked back. A bit scared as I have to run for a bit more than 22mins tomorrow

Friday Oct 10

Running 22:00 [3]
A plod up and down David st to get 20mins. Ohhh, I wish my right leg behaved like the left one

Thursday Oct 9

Running 30:00 [3]
Morning jog with Cathy. She had to push the kids again, so I got to hold the dogs' lead. It was fun! And we didn't get swooped. Makky was missing his teddy though and I had a very sore leg, so it was good to get back.

Wednesday Oct 8

Running 45:00 [3]
Really nice daylight saving run with lots of girls. Went from Al's on her parli loop, I love those tracks there, very scenic. Yummy soup afterwards, but of course dessert was best of all :-)
