enjoyed the course (though it adhered to middle-distance guidelines and was over-planned) and the area, apart from the felling/windblown, but an average performance with an average result, saw the times of Musty and Daniel Gooch before I started so went out prepared for a long one, felt slow but got stronger, over 9mins of time loss
disappointed with compass work: nailed 1-3, but ignored my bearing on 4, went right on 7, but had a thorn copse to relocate from, then when I followed my bearing uphill on 11, I oveshot by twice the distance, going past the control but my eyes were aiming forward
a couple of control were tucked out of sight, #12, for example, where I reached the mouth of the shallow re-entrant, but couldn't see a wet pit or a flag at the end of it, lack of confidence led to slowly looping around to the back of it
16th, 17mins behind Bill, 2secs behind Jon Cross and 12s behind Daniel Gooch
