running (terrain and trails) 53:55 [3] 10.28 km (5:15 / km) +190m 4:48 / km
ahr:148 max:163 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 190

Stanton Moor Squiggles
starting from the SE end and heading down to the big quarries to get in more climb than usual, didn't have long enough to do the 'spirals' so threw in an exercusion across the heather up to the trig point, lovely

Note
(sick) (rest day)

tonsils a bit swollen today, maybe this is why it felt like hard work yesterday

5 PM

running warm up/down 6:49 [2] 1.14 km (5:59 / km) +60m 4:44 / km
ahr:137 max:150 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

from the Robin Hood up to proposed start for club champs, guess what, feeling heavy legged after the JK, blew hard all the way up the hill

Orienteering 38:04 [5] *** 5.9 km (6:27 / km) +100m 5:57 / km
ahr:151 max:163 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Birchen Edge
test running the 'long' course for the club champs, seems about right in length and difficulty, should be a nice tour of the area avoiding the worst of the bracken (in September)

running 8:57 [1] 1.25 km (7:10 / km) +5m 7:01 / km
ahr:115 max:137 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

easy run back down to the car park, checking the position of a few boulders on the way ... things look a bit different with the bracken down

Note
(rest day)

Success!

My target was a top ten finish in one of the JK classic races or at BOC. Did it at the first attempt, plus an 8th place on the sprint, and held on to a top ten finish overall. (Last year I was 25th.) Job done.

And yet ...

I'm dismayed by the gulf in pace that persists between me and many of the others. Most of my splits were outside the top twenty. I need to get faster and stronger, and take more risks, if I want to improve on this year's achievements.

11 AM

Orienteering race (relay) 44:54 [5] 5.7 km (7:53 / km) +255m 6:26 / km
ahr:159 max:175 shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

JK Relay, Pwll Du, Senior Men, leg 3
another good run, caught and passed by Richard Barrett, but overhauled Liam Corner and got within sight of Fraser Purves (8secs), I was running on fumes by the end (so pleased to be within a second of the Trophy runners' splits to the last control)

6) chose to go to the right of the little hill, but boulder was on the left, scrabbled across to it [15]
16) previous route had short steep climb, hard to get going again [15]
17) ditto [10]

5th of 11 on gaffle, ran 7.26km
