Orienteering - hard 1:30:00 [4]

Long distance. I'm so incredibly disappointed with this race. Mainly because it felt just like a long run, with no real top gears going on and aware of being v light and not v strong. Also some time on the medium length route choices, the main idea on the long legs was at least sound. Enjoyed the bits i was with Hollie at least, but the last 2km was so uninspiring it was easy to switch off. Overall i think just a combination of not having quite the preparation or confidence after the poor winter, and being exhausted at the end of the week. Glad i got one successful race in (and i think on the best orienteering of the week!), but i hate to be just off the pace like that. I know i can do better and the novelty of my diplomas has thoroughly worn off now. Two days of sleeping and eating and i can start again. Base training, races, WOC.

Relay. ahh i was so disappointed not to get more from myself here. didnt have my right pair of legs on for whatever reason :-( i tried to just take the controls well and i only lost little bits of time here and there but the forest and course was too dull for anyone to really take themelves out the game! so it was the best job i could do today but not a triumph. it was an okay result and good effort from us but i cant help wanting more when we're such a good team! at least this is something to build from on another day. stayed afterwards to watch a really exciting men's race.

really would like to magic some better feeling for tomorrow so its not too much of a death march!!!

Orienteering - hard race 37:00 [4]

Have to catch up a bit on my log. Didn't mean to neglect it while i'm here but it's been chaos, trying to enjoy myself but so much work, late night tonight to meet my deadline :-O

Anyway i forgot how scary it feels to stand on the startline for a championship with adrenaline up above my head and cameras ahead and behind. started with a bit of a shaky feeling, impossible to feel like youre moving well across the slippery hills between fallen trees. but quite cleanly round the first few, just minor devitions and hesitations. caught and overtook Vendula and then Charlotte, had to slide down a crag and got my map covered in blood and mud and so had to just run a couple of the legs on compass cos i couldn't see the features. suddenly there were only 4 controls left but i dropped (estimated) 30s ish each on three of them. so i knew i would regret that later and went to give myself a good talking to/hide from the commentary until the race was done. came back to find it was fifth. so so close, but at least equalling scotland woc for championship middle success. it's been a while. good to be back!

cant say enough how much it was giving me flashbacks of mulgrave. pretty much the same feeling.

middle q. 12 controls, the first 8 great then i nearly took myself out the game on a path bend. brill. three controls dragging myself to the finish wondering how to explain the first time i missed a championship final then finding that actually the window is wide enough to get away with it. still spent the rest of the day reeling from the monster mistake and trying to coax some confidence back. at least i know when it's going okay, it really is going great.
